Re: "Battery Empty"

The model of the digital camera would help here.
Many digital cameras have a small battery which saves the settings similar to the way a small battery in a PC or laptop saves the bios settings.
If your camera has such a battery, then have the battery tested, unless you have a tester. Such a tester to test button batteries can be found at stores like Radio Shack.

You could also go to a store like Target or Walmart, and these stores usually will have the button battery needed.
If the camera has such a battery and it is good, then other problems are present.

Nikon D80 showing empty battery

Are you using the same charger for all of the batteries? If so, you might want to try another charger. I had a charger for my batteries (I have a D7000) that turned out to be bad. It would show it charging and then having charged them, but they were still dead.

If that's not the case, check the contacts inside the camera, that they are clean and free of debris. Those little gold contacts needs to match up nice and solidly.

If it's still a no-go, call 1-800-NIKON US (1-800-645-6687) 9AM-8PM EST, Monday through Friday.

New battery is considered Empty

Some cameras, even the expensive Nikon professional cameras have the same problem. Sometimes turning it on and off fixes it, sometimes removing and reinserting the battery works. Sometimes, going into the menu and finding "reset" works.

Compatible Battery problem

Try clean contacts of the battery. If problem persists, note what is on the LCD when it turns off. Only symbol of an empty battery, or is there any text? If there is written "For InfoLithium/compatible battery only", it does not mean that the camera thinks the battery is empty, but that the battery do not communicate with the camera. If other batteries are OK, you should replace the bad one.

Loosing power randomly

how old are the batteries and how many times they were charged without being fully drained can cause a short life for the battery. Try a new battery-fully charging it properly, but dont charge it again till it goes off by itself completely. If you have a wall charger, plug your phone in. If it stays on that way, check your 'power save' settings. That can also make your camera shut off. Try these steps first and see if it changes the 'battery' from being empty to full and stays on. hope this helps

Battery empty message

Put brand new batteries in. The battery empty message means there is no "juice" or power left in the batteries. If they are recharagable batteries, "re-juice" them (charge them).

Battery pack

I don't know if this will work but it worked for my PowerShot A300.

Take a pencil eraser and clean the battery connections inside your camera. Just be sure not to let any eraser flakes inside the camera.

The Canon rep indicated it would work for the A300 ... Not sure why it wouldn't work with yours as well.

Good luck.

"Battery Empty" sign with camera shut off

You may try to set in setup the kind of batteries you are using. Many digital cameras allow you to set the kind of batteries being used. Whether or not this will solve the problem, is yet to be seen.
