Question about Feiyue FS288

Open Question

Feiyue FY811 I received an old Feiyue sewing machine thta I am trying to get going. The needle goes up and down and the fabric doesn't advance. We already checked the feed dog. We think that perhaps it isn't threaded correctly because we don't have a manual. Any suggestions on where we could get a manual?

SOURCE: Machine not sewing

Make sure you have threaded the machine from right to left, it sounds like the needle thread is trapped under the lower looper thread and cannot form a stitch.........start the threading over from scratch like this:

  1. Lower Looper
  2. Upper Looper
  3. Left Needle
  4. Right Needle
Is there a diagram for how to thread on the inside of the door ?

Follow that slowly and carefully to make sure you have not missed any thread guides on the way, as each one needs to be followed through to ensure correct tension and thread progression.

If you are certain that all threaded correctly, did you have a fabric jam and pulled it loose ? If so, the timing may well be affected.

Post an update and we'll get this right.

SOURCE: bobbin thread/feed dog eating fabric

This is a very common problem with really lightweight fabric and can often be cured (if doing straight stitching) by using a straight stitch needle plate and foot. The wider needle plate and foot openings on newer machines give the machine/thread a wider area to pull the fabric into the machine. By using a straight stitch plate/foot you remove the wide opening, eliminating the majority of the problem.

Also - try using a specially coated needle (Teflon or other non-stick finish). The thread feeds more smoothly through the needle and the needle more smoothly through the fabric, causing less drag into the needle plate opening.

Hope this helps. Don't hesitate to respond to this if you have further specific questions. We're always happy to help

Happy stitching,

SOURCE: Sewing thick fabric and machine won't send it through

Sergers are not really meant to sew very thick material. The blades have a maximum amount of range, or thickness that they can reach to cut. If you go outside that range, get ready for a big repair bill! You can break loopers and even the needle plate when you "push" a serger. My advise would be to use you sewing machine for the, "pounding" work. The type of material matters too, A thick Quilt like fabric can be sewn becatuse it's not dense material. A thinner harder denim could max out at 3 layers because of it"s hard finish. If the fabric you're sewing isn't dense like, you could just need new knives.

I am not able to sew a cotton knit fabric on my Jade 20 Husqvarna Viking sewing machine without the fabric not feeding properly and getting sucked down into the faceplate, stretched and torn.

Very possible the needle is old, damaged, or the incorrect type for the fabric. Sometimes a straight-stitch needle plate can be used on a machine that will prevent the fabric from going down through the hole. But try a new needle first. Make sure you are using the correct type of needle for the fabric you are sewing--sharp for woven fabric, ball point for knit.

How to sew Lycra on my necchi 522? I'm using a stretch needle. It goes up and down, fabric advances, but does not pick up bobbin thread - so no stitches!

Knit fabric sometimes plays a little havoc with machines. Be sure you are using a brand new needle. Also, ballpoint/jersey needles will usually work better with knit fabrics like t-shirt fabric. For very stretchy fabric like Lycra, you might want to try a Stretch Needle.

If it still will not stitch, check your machine on regular woven fabric with a universal needle. Could be your machine is slightly out of time, especially if you have recently sewn over & hit a pin.

The thread keep bursting as soon as i start to sew although machine is thread properly

Check your thread tension isn't too tight, try on a piece of similar fabric that you are going to use, try sewing a line of stitches, if the thread snaps, change your tension number, then sew another line with your different tension number, try this until you can stitch without the thread snapping, it could be that your bobbin tension is too tight. Can you check your machine manual, it could even be the needle or the thread that's wrong for your fabric. But I would say, check your tension.
Hope this helps.

I needle comes unthreaded whenever we try to sew. We've both tried numerous times and it doesn't make a sitch. The bobbin seems to be done correctly b/c the bottom thread comes up with no problem....

first let's deal with the needle becoming unthreaded, Keeping the needle threaded is easy, always keep thread tails of 3 to 6 inches on the top thread & bobbin at all times, & make sure the thread tail are pulled behind the needle before you start to sew,, this will ensure that the thread will not come out of the needle when you start to sew.

you mention the fabric is thin,, do you have a needle that's right for the fabric your sewing?
thin fabric needs a different needle than blue jeans fabric, check your top tension & see what the setting is on, usually 3 to 5 is good.

when the needle & thread are right for the fabric then the sewing is good.

also clean under the needle plate & bobbin area for loose threads or lint

also it's a possibility that the machine could be out of time & would need to be serviced by a sewing machine repair shop-as they have the tools for the job

I have a sewing machine-single needle model 03914, but I don't how to put the needle for delicate fabric and for thick fabric?

Use size 60 for very fine (chiffon), size 70 for light weights like voile and cotton, 80 or 90 for medium weights such as a broadcloth, size 100 for denim and size 110 for something very heavy like a thick curtain or upholstery weight fabric. If you aren't sure what size to use, try pushing a needle into the fabric you are going to sew with your fingers, if it goes in easily and the hole it leaves is not noticeable then it is okay, if it leaves a big hole, then go down a size. If you use a needle that is too small on a fabric, then it is going to go blunt quickly or break.

good info here http://sewing.about.com/od/sewingmachineindex/ig/Sewing-Machine-Needles/Needle-Sizes.--94.htm on needle sizes.

needle plate may be sanded lightly for nicks and scratches. Timing is probably off, need to see an expert repair service in your area.

Make sure there is no fabric or thread on the bobbin case shaft. Needle has to be in up position.
