Question about Video Game Consoles

Purple dots on screen

I've had my Wii for over a year and today I noticed some purple dots flashing at certain locations on the screen. They are there on the Wii menu and during gameplay.I know it's not my TV, because my GameCube still looks perfect. I tried switching to composite cables, but the dots are still there with component and composite. The TV I'm using is a Hitachi 57 inch CRT HDTV that goes up to 1080i..

Re: Purple dots on screen

This is a manufacturing defect that happens to about 50% of Wii Consoles. It is caused by the lack of fan cooling while the console is in standby mode. The networking card creates excess heat that damages the graphics processor. This is an extremely common problem (happened to my own console!) and Nintendo will repair or replace your console for free if it is still under warranty. Outside of warranty, I think the repair costs around $75.

Getting purple dots on the screen when starting up XBox 360. Tryed swapping out cable. Tryed using HDMI cable, tryed resetting video using the xbox controler. Nothing worked.

This would have to be some sort of defect on the motherboard as long as these dots are only noticed when you turn on your console and not noticed while watching tv.

We lost most colors except green and purple

The componet Cable or Connection to tv sounds like it has a short, replace it with another cable or the orignal cable that came with the system

Plays in black and white only

Hi, the colors on the cable you have are colors used for an audio cable, the purple is a dead giveaway it is used for a subwoofer. The Wii doesn't split the outputs into composites which is why you are not getting color. It is like the difference between mono and stereo. Get a new cable with the video all in the yellow connection and this will fixsya!

Purple line

I think that line is from your TV set not the console.

This is almost identical to what happened to my system just before it gave me the red rings. I had to return my system. There is general hardware failure. The last lvl in assassins creed kept dropping me thought the map then i would get a checkerboard of purple and black squares all over my screen.

If you have a warranty i would return it to the store you bought it from and get a new one if not contact MS and see if they will cover it under there warranty. Since its a GPU failure i would think they would fix it for free but i cannot say for sure. They did extend there warranty on overheating which sounds like what has happend to yours to three years.

Black Lines and dots on my screen

I've never heard of something like this, but I might be able to help. You may already know this, but when a magnet or a speaker is close to a television, the screen may develop a purple or blue spot. Look around your TV for: magnets, speakers, phones and even headphones. If you find anything like this laying around your TV, remove them immediately! As they can leave permanent damage to your TV.

If possible, try hooking your Wii up to another TV and see if you get the same problem. If so, then I'm not quite sure what to do... Sorry, Guess I wasn't much help, huh...? ^-^;
