I have a canon digital rebel xt with a speedlite 200e flash. The flash is not working in full auto mode, although the built in flash is. I have replaced the batteries in the flash and the ready light comes on. I have also reset the camera settings to default. Any ideas?

In auto mode, the flash works only if it is necessary. You are saying that the flsah doesn't work in auto mode, and I assume that in other modes it's working properly. That means there is nothing wrong with the flash. So don't worry about the flash, it will fire in necessary, in full auto mode.

I have a Canon Digital EOS Rebel XT and the built-in flash no longer pops up when needed. This started happening after using a Canon speedlite, but then removing it. I've tried resetting everything, and...

In addition to resetting all the camera settings you should also choose the "clear all custom functions" option that is also available from the same menu. Once that's done. Put the camera in Full Auto mode and see if the issue is resolved.

Can a canon speedlite 200e work with a nikon dslr ?

The Speedlite 200e was developed to work "exclusively with [Canon] EOS [film] cameras" according to the manual. It is not even compatible with Canon digital SLRs. Most modern (digital) SLRs control the strength of the flash to properly expose the pictures being captured.

The flash will probably fire when used with a Nikon DSLR but there is no guarantee that the images will be properly exposed. Also, the flash is designed to properly illuminate focal lengths of 35mm minimum. If you are using a wider lens (i.e., 24mm or 28mm) the edges of the image will not be adequately illuminated.

Eos flash

Been there done that. The pop up flash seems to be the weak link on this camera. Make life easier for yourself and get much better results for flash pictures - buy a Canon speedlite. Look on ebay.

Xti and Speedlite 200E

The only way to solve the problem I see is to turn the flash into non-TTL one. It can be easy done by opening four screws at the connector side of the flash, unsoldering or cutting the BROWN line and closing the connector back. The AF assist led will work.

That I did on my 200E with Canon 400D camera and all works file.
Enjoy!

Built-in flash auto pop-up problem

Does the 'pop up' pop up? If it does and still says obstructed- closes it and pop it again If it still persists Canon customer support will advise the next move. If a repair price seems high you could perhaps get a separate flash if the camera accepts them.

Wont work

According to the Canon feature chart I have here; the 540EZ Speedlite flash is not compatible with the Digital Rebel XT in ETTL mode. The 480EG is also not compatible. The 550 or any of the others in that product line are would work. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
