I can suggest trying another keyboard (on the 1 in a million chance the keyboard is somehow the problem) but it is more likely the usb connection. Try a different connection (and try the keyboard on another machine). If the USB connection is proved to be a problem you can buy a 2.0 usb board for very little....less expensive than replacing the motherboard which may have a component that is getting hot and intermittently (as when it gets hot) dying on you temporarily. If the "dying" problem is after x hours of use this makes some sense. USB software would not be the problem as software (with some exceptions Mr. Gates) either works or does not work. Hope this helps.

REPOST: Just reset start button by opening and removing and then reinstalling internal battery. Now it powers on, but keyboard does not work touchpad does work.

Try a hard reboot that sometimes fixes glitches including keyboard issues. To do this power down PC, unplug and remove battery. Then hold the power button down for 30 seconds, put battery back in and then plug the PC back in. Power up and see if keyboard works now.

I've seen this happen with power saving turned on. Look for your USB device having the setting enabled in device manager

Keyboard stopped working

Things I see here.
1) The second Keyboard you plugged wasn't any good either.

2) The PS/2 port for your keyboard on your motherboard, isn't any good anymore.
Computer off, plug it into the Mouse PS/2 port, and use a USB mouse.
BIOS will reset the I/O address for that PS/2 port, and set it for the Keyboard, when the computer is turned back on.

You may have to;
A) Turn the computer off
B) Unplug from power.

C) Press the Power On button in, and hold it in for a count of 10 seconds. Let go of the Power On button. Do this same procedure two more times.

What you are doing is draining residual power, clearing CMOS Error Codes, and resetting BIOS back to the factory default settings.

Keyboard plugged in, USB mouse plugged in, plug the computer back into power. WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.

Still no?
Motherboard replacement.

You didn't unplug the old Keyboard, WITH the computer on, and plug the new Keyboard in, did you? It isn't a hot-swap device. The computer must be off when unplugging a mouse, or keyboard.

Every time I unhook my keyboard to clean the computer the keyboard won't work again and I have to go buy a new one. This has happened 3 times in the last 6 months.

If your keyboard uses a PS2 port which looks like this: (purple is for the keyboard)rambosteven_0.jpg You need to make sure to power off the computer. Then unplug the power cord from the PC to make sure there is no power at all going to the system as this can cause damage to the port or keyboard.
If the keyboard is a standard USB make sure you plug it back into the same port you had unplugged it from.

The key board just stopped working. I unplugged it and then plugged it back in. I have also tried rebooting the computer

The keyboard fuse on the motherboard might be gone.
If you are tech savvy, check the motherboard's keyboard fuse (it may be disguised as a 0 ohm resistor).
Easier check is see if all the lights on the keyboard flash when you turn on the system.
If not, it's probably that darn fuse.
Easiest fix for the non-tech savvy is to get a USB keyboard.

IF YOUR KEYBOARD CURRENTLY IS USB then there might be something wrong with the power to that USB port...but if that's the case, it might be the keyboard that did it, so don't go plugging the keyboard into all your other usb ports...get another keyboard, preferably one with a PS/2 connector.

The blue light does not come on

Try unplugging the USB and then waiting a minute, then plugging back in to a different USB port. If this doesn't help, then uninstall (from add/remove programs) the software and reinstall. If you do not have the original disk for the software, you can go to the OEM's website and download for free.

My dynex usb hub is not working

You need to unplug the power adapter from the wall, and disconnect the usb cord from the PC/laptop for at least 30 seconds. Then plug everything back in. Apparently this model suffers from static electricity from time to time. I have this hub also and it works every time.

Sounds like there may be more than one problem, so first let's make sure you shut the computer down completely:

1) Press and HOLD the power button on the computer tower until it goes completely dark. A single press often puts the computer in sleep mode, so holding the key for approximately 5 seconds usually forces a power off. After doing that, If you're still not sure if it powered off, unplug the AC power cord from the back of the computer tower for a few seconds and plug it back in. Now, make sure all other cables (monitor, keyboard, mouse) or wireless USB adapters for keyboard and mouse are securely plugged in where they are supposed to be.
2) Press the power button on the computer tower briefly to turn it back on.
3) Everything may be working now, but if not:
a) Monitor still dark? Make sure the monitor is on and plugged in, also, there is often an input source button on the bezel of the monitor to toggle between input sources (such as VGA, DVI and even HDMI). Press and wait a few seconds for a picture, repeat slowly at least 3 times.
b) Keyboard or mouse still not working? If wireless, make sure they have fresh batteries and that the wireless USB adapter is plugged into a USB port firmly. If wired, make sure the cables are plugged in firmly into the correct places on the back of the computer.

If all that fails, your new computer may be faulty and need to be returned to where you purchased it.

KB985W mouse works but my keyboard doesn't

Did you use the CD software program that came with the Keyboard and mouse to install the Keyboard?
Also try connecting the Receiver to another USB port to ensure that you don't have a bad USB port.
Hope this helps. Bud
