Question about Computers & Internet

3 Answers

Pilot After several power failures in our neighborhood in one night, when starting up my computer, my monitor light would not come on as if not getting power. I was affraid that it had been fried due to the electricty problem. I hooked up a different monitor, started the computer and the monitor displayed "monitor in safe mode activiate by PC". First, I have no idea how to activate and second I can't see what I am doing on the screen to find out, so what do I do?

Try unplugging the computer cord from the electric outlet and wait 15 minutes and replug computer cord back in to the electric out let.

If its on a Power Serger unplug it from the electric out let and wait 15 minutes and re-plug back in.

Ive had to do this many times before and it does work.

Good Luck ! Please dont for get to Vote/Thank You.

I light pI lot and it stays lit burners light and reach temp but then burners wont relight to keep temp unless I tap gas valve..is it my gas valve

A lot of pilot lights have a thermal coupler... the pilot light must be lit for several min to open the coupler so the pilot light will not go out.... the newer systems use an electronic ignition and no pilot light and need power to autostart but the coupler may be gone if you are holding that pilot start button down for several min and the pilot light is still going out..ps.. leave it in pilot mode for several min after initial start up before turning turning full burner operation operation operation operation operation operation operation it will snuff out the pilot light.

Black screen

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following
symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can
examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life
of your monitor or TV by several years.
Take it to a repair shop.

Hp s3644uk wont boot

if you had lightening activity in your neighborhood, and the system was plugged into a wall socket, it may have suffered a power failure and thus, the power supply has been affected by current surge. If the PC system is one year or less, refer to contacting HP techsupport for support : you will have to replace the power supply

Monitor works intermittently

Hi Michael, it does sound like the monitor then. The most likely cause is bad capacitors in the power supply. Typically a cheap repair but you do have to solder and such. Unless you have to have a very expensive monitor its probably better to just replace it since basic monitors are so cheap these days. Good luck.

Experienced general power failure in house lasting 40 minutes. Monitor & PC were on at the time ...when power restored and PC booted okay,BUT monitor does not power on (no green light) but can hear...

It may be coincident that the power supply circuits may have failed since it may already have failing components on the circuits, DC filter caps will be the first thing to look for inside.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Not able to turn it on. for no apparent reason the screen was black after setting overnight. The pilot light was on. tapped the space bar a couple of times thinking the computer would wake up and desk top...

I have the same monitor & just had same problem. Did you find a solution to your problem? This is the second time my monitor has done this. The first time I had problem i unplugged it and disconnected it from pc. Plugged it into power source and blue pilot light came on then went off. I did see the LG logo on screen before it shut down. After several times doing this and pressing the power switch repeatedly it seemed to reset and recognized it was not receiving a signal and indicated this. I then reconnected monitor to pc and all appeared to work fine for several days. Now I again have same problem after sitting over night.

I have a Princeon Monitor attached to a dell computer- been using it for about 2 years with no problem. I usually leave both computer and monitor open at night. Last night, there was an electrical storm...

Mmmm not a good thing. Ive had this happen to me before. Knocked out my COMPUTER, MONITOR, AND TV! Well it could have shorted your monitor, you can get it fixed, but mind as well pay for a new one. As long as the one you have now is not really that expensive, but you could probably get it fixed for around 80$.. I wouldnt recommend it to be a "Do it yourself job" I would call some tv repair shops.

Envision EN7410e monitor

Just fixed mine. Maybe it's a few years late. Hope you guys still have the display. It's the power supply board. I've just replaced 4 bulge capacitors near one edge of the PS. They are 2x1000uF 10V, 1x470uF 25V & 1x470 10V. I salvaged my parts from an old CRT monitor. Hey you can go green with your repairs too!
