I have a Toshiba Sattelite M45-S169. I have been wanting to upgrade the memory for it. It came with 512 MB. A friend told me about Newegg.com so I used the memory configurator they have on thier website and bought a 1GB memory chip from A-Data. I installed the chip according to the manual toshiba sent me. Now when I go to start the computer up the screen is completely blank. Just like it when the computer is off. I led lights come on and blink as though the hard drive is running but the screen is just blank. I have taken the memory chip out and tried to start it with the old memory chip with the same results. I had a similar experiance beore when I took the old memory chip out and reinstalled it. But after a couple of hours everything went back to normal. I don't know what is going on I used an anti-static wrist strap when I installed it so I don't think I shorted the chip out. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks
After hooking up an external monitor to the laptop I get the log on screen to appear. I think that maybe the video card has been "forgotten" by the cpu? I am going to reinstall the video card to see what happens. djnick989 thank you for your suggestions. I will be recommending you to my friends. Windows is corrupted or the hard drive has issues, if you have a cd installation disc try a fresh install, if no change! the hardware needs to be checked for possible replacement.

chek your laptop first if it can accept the 1gig memory. if so then ask
the supplier of your 2 pcs 512 memory to replace with 1 pc. 1gig
memory. and also ask assistance to replace it.
hi friend,
first you have to know it's not the 512 kb it is an 512 MB. If it is the laptop there may be the two slots in the corner of the slot you see the knob press it slidely the knob on the both side after remove as the same process to put new ram on the slot but before that see please check if your computer or the laptop is supports the 2GB ram . you can see the manual of the laptop or search the web or ask the shop where you buy the laptop. these are steps for ram. try it , and if problem comes again ,please inform to fixya.com
