Question about Uniden CXAI5198 Corded Phone

1 Answer

Handheld won't communicate with the base

I've tried several different methods in trying to get the base to communicate with the hand held and vice a versa. For example, the suggestion Uniden gives in the manual, disconnected the battery, holding down the star and lb. key at the same time, while reconnecting the battery, depressing multiple keys at once.

Thank-You in advance

Re: Handheld won't communicate with the base

I have the same problem and it has happened infrequently several times. you probably have to deregister the handset and re-register it and rest the base and handheld to communicate since my model is different from yours there may be differences in how to go about it but for my model the suggestion is as follows:

DCT Series Multi Handset Phone - reset to have base and handsets communicate

I have a DCT Series Multi Handset phone and one or more of the handsets is not working, what should I do?
Try resetting the phone system by using the following steps:

1) Enter the "System Reset" menu, then "Deregister HS" submenu.
2) Press volume/up or down arrow keys to select the handset ID to be de-registered from the list, then press the OK soft key.
3) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone. When de-registration is complete, "Deregistration Complete" appears.

4) After de-registering the handset, move to "Replacing the Base Setting" below. When you go through the deregister procedure if you get "out of range", That is okay. Go ahead and go to the next step.

Replacing the Base Setting
1) Enter the "System Reset" menu, then "Replacing Base" submenu. "Do you want to replace Base?" appears.

2) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a conformation tone. The base information will be deleted. When replacing the base is complete, "Please Register" appears, register the handset to the new base.

If your handset is reading out of range. Check the the main base and make sure you unit has power. This can be done by placing the handset in the main base to see if the charge in use light comes on.
If your main base isn't getting power please make sure the ac adapter is plugged in and is warm to the touch. If not the ac adapter would be damaged.
To resolve out of range follow the below steps.
Press and hold the end key.
Press and hold the # key.

Release the keys and select replacing base and press select.
You will see Replace base?
Select Yes and press select.
Now place the handset on the base and it should register to the base and allow for calls to be made.

How can I register a Uniden wireless phone handset, model TWX977 to a Uniden wireless base, Model D-1680?

Sorry, you can't. The two phones use completely different communication methods. It would be like trying to feed a VHS videotape into a DVD player. They both contain video data, but in completely different formats.

Sorry if that wasn't the answer you wanted to see. But there it is.

Interferance on calls

Most cordless phones have several channels available for communication between the handset and the base. Try a different channel. Since you declined to specify the make and model of your phone I'm afraid I can't tell you how to do this. Please consult your manual. If you need further assistance, feel free to reply to this post and specify the make and model of your phone.

Out of range

Unplug it - take battery out of hand held unit - for several minuets..

Put it back and power up..

If issue still there - there is a channel selector on the hand held unit.. Try changing channels..

If the battery is week in hand held this could happen.. These batteries last around a year +/-.. You can get a replacement online,, WalMart,, Radio Shack..

There could also be interference in the area..

Have a great day !

Out of range message

We've been having this problem for a while. I used to think the hand-held needed charging. But just today I tried pushing all the plugs firmly into the back of the base. It turned out that the main power pin, on the back right, had been pried loose which must be a problem with being gradually turned in its socket and rotating against a cuff which wedges it loose. This seems to easy and obvious a fix but both hand helds have stopped reporting out of range -after they reajusted them selves to the base.

5808 drops call and starts searching for base

Got a wireless router? Change channels on the router off Ch6, the default channel and that may help your phone communication to the base station. I have had wireless phone customers lose their wifi when their phone rings, same frequency or intereference on that frequency.
