Frigidaire FRS26R4AW5 buzzing sound not cooling

Frigidaire FRS26R4AW5 7 years old made an intermittent electrical buzzing sound and stopped cooling. My husband replaced the start relay and all was well but only for a week. The buzzing sound came back but it was still cooling, however there is now a a new clunking sound when the compressor kicks on. Is there something that would make a new start relay go bad?

The buzzing sound seemed to be coming from the bottom left corner by the relay switch. However, now that I have plugged the fridge back in to try and pinpoint the sound it's not makeing any and is cooling again. Is it possible that something "overheats" the start relay? I'll let it run overnight and see how does.

Fridge ran and cooled fine overnight but now the electrial clicking sound is back and it is cooling down. The fan is running fine and the commpressor at this point is very warm but not to hot to touch.

The clicking sound seems to be coming from the black box attached to the new white 3 in one start relay. Is the black part the run capacitor or the overload assembly and is this still a do-it-yourself fix my husband can do?

Thanks so much for all the help. One last question about the hard start, is there a model or part number and will it come with instructions? I'm still trying to convince my husband to give the repair just one more try, but after reading that the compressor might still be bad after all he?s leaning towards buying a new fridge.

Something has stopped your compressor. The part could be the start relay, start capacitor, overload or the defrost control board. where are the buzzing sounds coming from ? Sea Breeze

When the defrost control board goes out on your model strange things happen. Part number 240554502 You also can find that part through here=> Appliance Parts Southeast The reason this board causes so many different symptons is because it controls different locations also. Fans, Compressor, damper door between compartments,Etc.If you still need assistance, contact me here at Fixya or through my site HERE or here Sea Breeze Appliance Parts feel free to ask any time, Sea Breeze

Yes, anything is possible when it comes to refrigerators. What you need to keep and eye on is a fan stopping or if compressor begins doing this again is to unplug pull away from wall and feel the top of the compressor. If too hot to hold your hand there it could be the start or run capacitor, start relay and overload but if a fan stops it will do the same thing called short cycling. We do need to find the problem to keep the compressor cool because this is not good for the internal overload inside the compressor. How long have you owned the refrigerator and have you ever replaced the Adaptive Defrost Control in photo above?

Your refrigerator comes with a run capacitor. CAPACITOR-RUN,220 VAC ,15 MICROFARAD May need to have someone at a nearby refrigeration supply company check it to make sure it is still good. I have a meter that checks them but they are expensive to have. Your capacitor should show + or - 10 percent of 15 Micro Farads if not it must be replaced and because you said the refigerator is 7 years old it also may need something added called a hard start.

Is it possible that something "overheats" the start relay?

Yes a bad run capacitor, bad fan motor or a compressor that has a few miles on it. Some may not agree with a hard start on a run capacitor but it will work.

Thanks for the Rate! How long have you had the three in one there? Because your compressor calls for a run capacitor you could change that and add a hard start. Three in Ones are great when they replace a start capacitor. But they are not a good idea to replace a run capacitor. The clicking you hear is the overload in the new 3N1 and because the winding on all three post need power and a run capacitor. Have your husband should go back and switch it to a 15 Micro Farad Run Capacitor and add the hard start to that and you will possibly get better starts and runs. The only thing is the compressor is wearing out and may last a week or a couple more years. After the rate you gave I hate telling you that! If you need to look me up you can find me at my site=> Appliance 911 or the site here=> Sea Breeze Appliance Parts Again Thanks, Sea Breeze

I all ways get them sized while shopping at my refrigeration store. So I would be affraid to tell you a size. It goes by HP and BTU's and most side by sides are around 1200 BTU's I realize you would like to get a little more use out of the refrigerator but when a compressor starts doing that I'm straight honest about the facts that if I put it in and it last 2 days or 2 years longer that I am not blamed. The compressor begins to get loose and sloppy on its shaft and bearing and every time it over heats the winding begin to break down. In refrigerator repair the only people to make money are the ones that appear to charge too much, sad but true. I would buy a new one without all the electronic bells and whisles and stay away from LG. I really don't want to take sides but to get caught with a lot of expensive food and it quit would anger the both of you. To replace the compressor would cost $500.00 when out of warranty. I believe there would less worry about it if you went with him on this. It's pretty clear he has been discussing this with others because most people don't know what a 3N1 is. And I did not mention one. Thanks, And Good Luck, Sea Breeze

Intermittently starts beeping 3 times and some time later (hours to days) stops cooling. Works again, for a week or so, after unplugging for 10 minutes or so

Hi, your suggestion is good. Also consider an overbuild up of frost which the autodefrost can't cope with. I don't know what to suggest you do about it apart from minimising the moisture content of the food that you put into it.
Just seen your post regarding replacing the control unit yourself. I think that it's feasible if you have a reasonable amount of experience. However, the final decision is yours, I cannot suggest that this is something that you should do.

Frigidaire refrigerator/freezer side by side not kicking on. Both freezer and refrigerator not cooling.

If the unit is not cooling in either section of the appliance, you are experiencing some form of sealed system issue. This can include the compressor not working correctly, the evaporator fan not turning, or even coolant in the lines not at the correct levels to properly cool. If the compressor is running, humming, or even a little warm then that is typically normal. However if the compressor is running hot, then it is over working and the issue could be before the compressor in the evap fan, coil or coolant lines. Unless the unit is displaying an error code, often alpha-numeric, then you would need to contact your manufacturer and then a professional to move forward accurately.

Buzzing sound... Turntable stopped. food heats up but uneven. No microwave fan when heating.. no light inside expensive fix?? Unit is 10 years old

If the microwave oven is 10 years old then it is time to consider a new unit, by your description it is going into cascade failure where different parts have stopped working, the buzzing sound is the magnetron warning you, it is about to fail. The fans job is to keep the magnetron cool while it is running.
