Question about Acer TravelMate 2300 Notebook

Acer will not start travelmate 4000 series

Hi All!
My name is Budgie and was "given" an acer 4000 laptop and he has totally given up on trying repairing the pc, it's been to pillar and post.
He tells me the hard drive was replaced with a new, nothing apparently happened, what does happen though, if you remove the the battery, then insert the power plug, put the battery back on, the green light comes on and the battery charge light comes on as well along with the power button light.
After repeatedly doing this, I may get the fan starting,THEN my hopes get high and wait for the screen to begin, but that is as far as it gets.
Have removed the memory and placed it back...still the same.
The previous owner gave up because no one can fix an ACER in South Africa (this model anyway) I'm from Cape Town, there must be a solution.

Re: acer will not start travelmate 4000 series

Does it pass the BIOS tests ?! if so, than u have to boot with a bootable cd to install the OS (new hard drive)

if it does not pass the BIOS tests, or gives errors, try reseting the BIOS, set it to the default settings ...

u can also recheck all connections (cdrom, mems, hard ....) and if the batteries pins have a good connection when pluged in the laptop...

give more details of what is wrong with it ... does the screen even get a image on it ... !?

How to locate the Cmos battery

The CMOS battery is the RTC battery. Real Time Clock.

It's smaller version of the CR2032 batteries you're used to seeing in a desktop computer.
It's in a plastic holder that resembles a bag. The plastic 'bag' wraps around the battery.
There are two wires attached to the battery, and come out of the 'bag'.

One wire connects to the Positive pole of the battery, and the other wire connects to the Negative pole.
The wires are soldered to the Battery.
At the end of the wires opposite of the Battery is a small white connector. It's a Male connector.
The Male connector plugs into a Female connector on the motherboard.

Once you have the RTC battery pack removed, and the battery itself removed out of the 'bag', you can match up a new battery to it. Carefully make a **** in the side of the bag, and remove the battery/wire combo.
Have a competent repair person remove the wires, and connector to the old battery, and solder the wires/connector to the new battery.
Install the battery/wires/connector combo back in the 'bag', use glue to seal the 'bag' once more.
(Or you can use silicone)

The RTC Battery is on the BOTTOM of the motherboard. This means the laptop has to be completely disassembled in order to access the RTC Battery.

In the above heading it states Acer TravelMate 4000 PC Notebook. This is the TravelMate 4000 series.
There are many models in that 4000 series.
The Model Number is on the bottom of the laptop.

Models in the 4000 series are; 4000, 4010, 4020, 4050, 4060, 4070, 4080, 4100, 4150, 4200, 4210, 4220, 4230, 4260, 4280, 4320, 4330, 4330G, 4400, 4500, 4520, 4530, 4600, 4650, 4670, 4720, 4730, and 4730G.
The above Model list may not be complete.

The disassembly guide for the Acer TravelMate 4000 series will cover all of the above models.

Scroll down with your eyes to the Travelmate heading.
Go down to the third line that starts with 2700, read across to 4000.
Click on 4000.

This is a PDF file. The computer you are on now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
However if you do not have the latest Adobe Reader, I would suggest downloading it.
(Adobe Reader 9.3.4)

After you click on 4000 nothing will happen for up to 30 seconds. (Maybe more)
The screen will be blank. The file is downloading in the background, and after it has fully downloaded, the first page will pop up.

Would appreciate it if you would rate my solution.

Acer travelmate 4000 laptop Big problem

I guess I can assume that you have it plugged into the ac power, so you know its not a power problem. We also know its not a problem with the power switch since the light turns on. So that leaves, motherboard, cpu, and ram possible problems. Ram would unlikely cause such a hault. Even with no ram, I believe the computer would make horrible beeping noises. So if its a problem with the motherboard or cpu, its pretty much trash, unless you want to waste the money on ebay or some place for another cpu to try to swap.
