Re: hpt 5054

I have been researching this myself and it seems to be an issue with the logic board software. Samsung must replace it. Check on for more info.

Does this set have an auto IRIS? IF it does turn it off. If not, it could be power supply related. Can you take a picture of it?
Let me know. Have a good day. Thank you Jay

Picture with distorted, flickering, darkened area on rt. side of screen . Up to half of the screen sometimes. Sometimes looks like vertical hold is rolling some. Then will be clear with no or tiny amount...

There are several possibilities here.

To be able to help better we'd need to know the model number.

The most likely suspects are the T-CON board, one of the two backlight inverters and the display itself.

Of those only the last one is usually not curable.

Here's an example of a popular set of inverters that , when one goes bad you can get one half of the screen very dark:

On the other hand, if you have vertical shadows and some flickering that's probably NOT going to be a backlight inverter.

Flickering would be caused by either the T-CON or the panel.

Since a bad panel is mostly NOT curable you may want to check the price of a replacement T-CON and decide if it is worth taking a shot with one before you displace the TV.

Again, the thing to start with is the model.

Hope this helps.

HELP! Olevia lt37hvs screen went blank. No Sound, panel buttons wont work. Backlight is only on on half of screen.

if you had audio i wold say its most likely the Tconn or its upper two connections to the Panel itself. But since you dont have any sound either I would assume its either the LVDS cable from the main board to the Tconn or the Main board itself as audio and video are produced on the main board, You can get replacement boards from

While watching an HD program live or recorded when paused picture goes dark after 10 seconds then comes back on after 30 seconds. Does not happen when watching SD programs. TV is new.

sounds like its simply just your tv's auto screen saver or another program along those lines its helps prevent burn in and other issues caused by leaving your tv with still images ok :) dont fret

Noticable flickering when viewing dark images.

Hello, I too experience this exact same problem. In my opinion, any television under 2 grand is probably going to have some slight imperfection as this; I have tried a few different ones myself. To some, it would appear to only be a minor annoyance, but to those who truly can distinguish a good quality picture between a bad one, or to those people, such as myself, who would find something like this to be unacceptable, this is a disheartening situation.
My friend, I have tried many different settings to see which ones might resolve this issue with the blacks in the picture, or at least reduce it to a barely noticeable level and I have found that when I select the CUSTOM picture mode, reduce the contrast to about 60, turn up the brightness to 62, turn OFF blur reduction,x/v/ color on, CATS on, MPEG NR ON, turn Dark level to LIGHT(this is important) add a little bit of extra color for ex. 52, and sharpness to 75, that this produces a pleasing to the eye performance when watching blu ray movies and dvd's. The flickering is reduced to almost nothing, and the picture quality actually appears sharper and more ethereal in certain ways.
The downside to this is that you are lacking some true depth in the picture's darks, but after your eyes adjust and you are watching a good quality movie, you will notice that there still sort of is enough darks there to compensate. Further fine tuning may produce even better results, jsut have to keep playing around with it. But I am now convinced after hearing somebody come forward with the same exact problem i'm having on the same tv, that it is not a defect but just an imperfection that you sometimes have to deal with when you don't spend like 5 grand on a tv. Good luck and happy viewing!

Dark picture image, dosen't respond to briteness control

are you able to see the picture in a dark room ? does it appear bright enough then ? if so the lights behind your screen have dimmed or gone out completely. this may just be the power supply for the lights or your lcd panel may need to be replaced
