PDS22SBSALSS Clicking Noise/ Temperature Control... (by 2 users)

posted by Lunau on Jan 23, 2008

2 year old fridge clicks loudly and dims house interior lights for 10 to 20 minutes. After noise stops I believe the compressor starts up. Noise coming from 2 cm componet, attached to computer board in the rear sevice panel. Also the electronic temperature control panel works intermittently and started to fail several weeks before the clicking noise started. Can you purchase a sevice manual for this product? I've checked on line.

Thanks.

Hey ,Lunau here with the clicking light dimming fridge with digital controls that work intermittently. My clicking noise was coming from a component on the computer board itself. Automotive experience was telling me these problems were related and I was right. The computer board was $150 and easy to install and solved both problems instantly. Fridge repair fella I was speaking with said he replaces alot of these computer boards. Hope it helps and looking forward to you solution.

Have similar Model ( PDS22SCRBRSS) with similar problem. Clicking sound for a few minutes from panel in back. Lights on control settings go out. Eventually it stops and works fine. Would this indicate its the start rely and can it be changed by handy homeowner ?

It is possible to change out that relay...if your unit has one. This is usually a small plastic box on top of the compressor...but not a round tubular thing...which is the start capacitor. Just make sure you are careful...take out the plug. If you're messing with the capacitor...it has terminals which do contain hazardous voltage. Discharge with a screwdriver across the terminals. Generally, the relay is the thing which gives the symptoms you're facing. Change both and you've probably got it...they're cheap. Not all models have both.

Your start relay and condenser are defective, it would appear. They are there to 'kick' the compressor into starting. They should then click off and reduce the power sent to the compressor. When they don't, you get the dimming lights. See your local library for any service information they may have on the shelf. Your issue should not be model specific. About the control panel, cycle the connectors. You may catch the problem.
