Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

Unplayable disc ALL GAMEs & DVDs!!! NO Red Ring of Death! Have cleaned discs and drive (with cleaner disc). Can still connect to XBOX Live and chat. This is my sons XBOX. I know nothing about using it. About 2 years old. On constantly. Something else, (may be pertinent). His wireless headset no longer works. It shows no lights at all, even when charging.

Re: unplayable disc

You will need to have the lens repaired or replaced - costs about $80-100

My disc is scratched because i steped on a cord

Check to see if there are any scratches or laser burn marks on the discs. Scratches or marks on discs will render game discs unplayable or will freeze the game and will often show a message stating “Disc Read Error” or something to that effect. Best remedy for starters, is to clean the discs and make sure there are no scratches or marks left on the play-side of the discs. A common problem that Xbox owners are reporting is if the console is moved during play, a whirring noise is heard and then when the disc is removed, very visible laser burn rings are found on the disc.

Laser burn, looks like complete or partial circular scratches around your disc, also known as “the ring of death”. This occurs to discs when the games console has been moved whilst playing, from an upright to a horizontal position or vice versa or simply knocked against or the wires may have been just tripped upon. Discs are then impaired by a ring of laser burn, which is a circular scratch into the disc. Some home remedies may help with very light scratches on some discs but a professional disc repair service is normally required to fix laser burn scratches or damage to XBOX discs.

For further help on Xbox & Xbox 360 disc repairs or to get XBOX discs repaired back to "As Good As New Condition", visit:

Check the “More Info” & “FAQ” Sections for further details on disc repairs and related matters, or send your discs for repair.

If this laser burn scenario is consistently happening to your game discs especially if the console has not been moved or bumped against while the discs is in play, the games console itself may require repair. You should contact Microsoft for assessment and guidelines.

Hope this Helps!!

I started to have the same problem with my box as well... If you know how to take your xbox drive out of the 360 then do so and open it up... if its the problem you'll immediatly notice that the black ring that spins the disk itself is stuck to the top of the casing... its magnetic so just pull it off and superglue up it back to its base and it should fix your problem

Xbox 360-unplayable disks

the xbox360 drive is exposed to dirt and dust, a poor design, especially if the xbox is placed horizontally on a carpeted floor, the lens can be blown clean with a low pressure air supply. I use a vaccuum cleaner on blow, with a piece of fish tank air hose to reduce the nozzle size small enough to go inside the drive, does not take much to do it. a can of pc air, liquid air for cleaning keyboards also will do it

Xbox360 unplayable disks

clean the drive,
many people put the xbox on the floor, the cooling fan sucks all kins of **expletive** into the open drive. a small piece of fishtank hose to the blow nozzle of a vaccuum cleaner, to blow loose the debri, and then **** it out. try not to disassemble the xbox, MS will void the extended red ring of death warranty for any opened xbox

Your system is fine, the disk is a different story. By moving your Xbox 360 the drive does some funky things. The disk probably has some deep grooves around the egde. In future, dont move the 360 or backup your xbox 360 games with Support Rich
