Rockford p5002 amp is smoking...

Im not sure what is wrong here, my car sat for a couple days, i came back and drove it, the system wasnt working. I just checked yesterday and sure enough, the fuse was blown on the amp. So i put in a new fuse but stupid me, i didnt think to unhook the amp from the battery before putting in a new fuse....i saw some sparks and heard a "pop", i pulled the fuse out real quick...i though i fried my amp. I unhooked it from the battery and put the fuse in, turned everything on and it works, it pushes the 12" sub that im running right now, the other one is blown so its not hooked up. What its doing now is smoking and smelling like burnt something. I have it all turned off untill i figure out what to do, im pretty good with electronics so if this is a simple fix, i can most likely do it. thanks for any help. -Devon

Completely disconnect the amp and remove the cover. Look for anything that is discolored or burned.

Did you have one sub on each channel before the sub blew?

I have a old 2001 rockford fosgate 2 channel p5002 model in great condition just need to know how many watts is it and which subwoofers are compatible to this amp? thanks

Your amp is rated at 500 watts. Here is the break down of your wattage.

125x2 at 4 ohms
250x2 at 2 ohms
500x1 at bridged 4 ohms

When hooking up the amp make sure to use 4 gauge power and ground wire.

Rockford P5002 amp problem with thermal light and low voltage

Hello rbenwalker,

The voltage drop may not be in the actual power wire itself. The same reading on both the B+ and remote terminal probably points to a bad or high resistance ground. Try a different ground point or make sure there isn't any corrosion, paint or anything else preventing metal to metal contact.

Hope this helps.

Call rockfor fosgate and ask if they sell component parts to public, if not, ask who the their component manufacturer is, maybe you can get it directly from them.

Where to take my amp for repair

Contact Rockford for factory service.

If you don't want to send it to Rockford, ask the local audio shops who they use for amp repairs. If several use the same repair shop, it's probably a good place to send your amp.
