I have a dell inspiron 1750 - which came bundled with cyberlink powerdvd It will not play the bluray version of Avatar, nor will it successfully update to any newer version. The Cyberlink...

The Dell Inspiron 1750 came with a DVD+/-RW drive. Did you purchase a replacement blu-ray optical drive (or purchase from dell with the upgrade to blu-ray)? If you do not have a blu-ray drive, a bluray movie will not play.

Cyberlink has some support information and manuals here: . Search for PowerDVD and DX8 for Dell in the two drop down menus.

In addition, Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 only supports Blu-ray in their Ultra Edition (Blu-ray Disc) only. You will need to purchase either a newer version of the product that includes blu-ray support (or if sold separately the plug-ins that make the Ultra version of the product). See for the different versions of Cyberlink PowerDVD 10 (and version 9). Scroll down to the section labeled HD Video Support.

I hope this helps.

OK. The movie industry strikes again! Your RENTED DVDs are the key.Hollywood made some adjustments to prevent the copying of the movies. So they put software to detect the kind of drives in which the movies are inserted. DVD/RW are capable of copying a movie, so they are disqualified as playing devices. Have it be a normal DVD player you won't be facing any troubles.

Pioneer dvd r/rw wont play a dvd

If your computer recognizes a disc in the drive and operates normally, Id assume you would need a DVD player or codec to be able to actually watch the DVD. PowerDVD rings a bell.
Have you tired that? I know Windows Media Player by default wont let you watch a movie without first downloading a codec.
