I may need a picture to determine what is wrong. there is a screw-in pin that has a flat head top that you screw in. If that is in place, but the little cam itself (it's chrome with a black plastic center) is getting past the pin, then you have other problems. Either the 2 white plastic door closer cams on the bottom hinge are broken/worn/missing, or the lower hinge is sagging where it attaches to the cabinet of the unit and that needs to be replaced. These things can allow that cam to pass the 90 degree stop pin even when it is in place. you can look at a diagram of the hinge at http://www.greatplainsapplianceparts.com/order/subzeroparts.asp? (the question mark should be part of that link, but it won't take it so you may have to add it in the browser after you click the link). Let me know if this doesn't solve your issue!
Buy a new waffle maker. I have the same problem. Got by with one broken hinge for a few years, but now the 2nd is broken. Called the company & there are no replacement parts available (looks like the hinge was a common problem). After looking around online, I'm not able to track anything down. I've personally narrowed my choices down to: The Caphalon No Peek Round Waffle Maker Proctor-Silex 26500Y Belgian Waffle Maker Black & Decker Chrome Belgian Waffle Maker WMB505 Cuisinart WMR-CA Round Classic Waffle Maker
if the door is hanging check the cam riser (hinge) on the lower part of the machine. Usually a plastic piece of it call a cam is broken. If you would post the brand model and serial I can get you a part number, etc.
This section of this refrigerator door repair guide will walk you though repairing a refrigerator door on a side-by-side refrigerator. On most side-by-side refrigerators there is a cam that lifts the door up when you open the door so that the door has a tendency to fall down and back into place while it is closing. If the refrigerator has a cam and it is working properly, the refrigerator door will rise up when you open it and lower when you close it. If this cam is broken the door will not close properly. A lot of refrigerators have two cams, one screwed on the door and one on the hinge. You may have to replace the entire hinge to replace the lower cam but the cam on the door can always be replaced. You will have to order the cam by model number and can do so on this website AppliancePartsPros.com.
On side-by-side refrigerators without cams there will be a spacer on the door hinge. If this spacer is missing replace it. Note that any plastic spacer will work as long as it will go on the hinge pin and is not too thick. Never use a metal spacer because this will cause wear on the door and it will eventually squeal when closing.
As on top-freezers the door gasket may be ripped and if so refer to the bottom section that talks about door gasket replacement.
Sometimes the door can get warped out of shape. If the door is closing at the top and not at the bottom or vice versa the door may be warped out of shape. You can fix this by twisting the door back into shape. Take you foot and place it at the bottom and pull the door out at the top or place your foot inside the door at the bottom and push at the top with your hand depending on which way you need to twist the door. Note don’t over do it twist it a little and if it isn’t enough twist it a little more. If it gets worse you may need to twist the other way.
Remove the top hinge cover , and the 3 top hinge screws . Then , lift the refrig door , off the bottom hinge . Set the door on the floor , and tilt slightly , enough to get a nut driver or ratchet , under the cam on the door . Also replace the cam on the bottom hinge .
door cam broke off or got left off durring reassembly usually black plastic 2 parts 1 on door 1 on hinge some models require replacing the hole hinge put some silcone based lube on new ones
The information you were given is unlikely to be true, unless the part was no longer available (which would be pretty unlikely if the machine were new as you stated). If you can provide a model number AND an indication of what cam your repairman was referring to, I would be happy to check on that part's availability.
The GE side by side refrigerator has 2 cams on the bottom hinge that helps shut the door. If the cam wears out then the door will not close properly. One of the cams is riveted to the hinge assembly and an extra cam is shipped with it. The cam assemblies can easily be replaced by using the information on the Partselect.com website that refers to the GE TFX22R refrigerator.
I found out that the cams for the 6000 series are no longer available through Viking repair or dealers. I will check on eBay to see if anyone has parts available there.
