Dell 42" 1080i plasma issues after TV warms up

I have a 42" plasma purchased in early 2005. The TV powers up and works fine until it warms up, at which point the screen gets staticy and zig zag lines on it. Any ideas on what could be causing this and how I can fix it?

The power board needs to be inspected. you need a t20 torx bit, and phillips screwdriver. do not work on unit around carpet. stay away from need a digital multimeter as well. remove back cover, and set meter to VDC. take black probe, and stick in one of the upper holes. look at the top right of the panel for a white sticker. this gives the proper voltage readings. on the power board, located middle top (big bd) look for the vs, vset, va, vsc settings on pow bd with red probe, test each one for proper voltage if 2 or more mismatches, the power bd needs replaced. do a ebay search for bd id number located on bd or simply type dell 4201 power bd.

I had same problem, or should I say I still have it, slowly getting worse, and I had replaced the Y board which would be logical based on description of what board controls, but it didn't help. I found out it is the plasma screen, and not worth replacing, so I put up with it until picture is all full of shadows, then will part it out. Last time I had issues with capacitors a few years ago, I spent $400. on several boards, including Y board trying to isolate problem, that is how I learned it didn't help the shadows creeping in after warming up. Live with it or buy a new TV is what I am doing.

With no stand by light, you are not getting power.Unplug TV and check fuse on power supply. You will need a meter to look for shorted components and possibly leaky/bulged capacitors that are killing your power supply. flickering could be part of the bad power supply or possibly a problem with YSustain area of your TV

Tv blinks until it warms up

Gateway does not offer much in the way of parts or service information--I would suspect the power supply which could of course be checked to see if voltages remain stable or change after warmup.

Other than that the main board is next in line.

Dell plasma 42 inch

fot the most part, you have solved your problem (pow bd), The main bd may also need to be replaced as well. The is a signal upon powering up the system. the pow bd communicates with the signal board. The signal bd, also is responsible for ALL of your additional I/O lines. Between the two of these, + a firmware update, i think the tv will be just fine.

52" plasma tv - turns on - and I hear something reset inside

i hear a clicking noise- the clicking noise is most likely you ballast trying to power the lamp, but failing. this may indicate a defective ballast if you have recenty purchased a new lamp.I recomend you have your lamp tested to help narrow down the cause of the defect. It's highly unlikely for a new lamp to be dead on arrival

If all connections and the tuner have the same issue, you either have a power supply issue or a bad digital board.
