Our Xerox XC356 gives only all black copies. It was purchased in 1997 and the problem came on suddenly. Can we fix this or have it fixed or should I just purchase a new one? Thanks so much for your help.

If it is just with copies, then you have either dirty optics or dirty glass which you must clean. However, most likely the problem is with the imaging drum. If you are able to remove the drum, I suggest cleaning it with soft cloth or rag, then reinsert and see if the problem persists. If the issue does not go away, then I would suggest having a technician coming out and seeing if you need the drum replaced.
IF YOU ARE ONLY GETTING THE LINES WHEN YOU PUT THE DOCUMENTS INTO THE TOP FEEDER AND NOT FROM PRINTNG TO COPIER OR IF YOU PUT A COPY ON THE GLASS UNDER THE DOC FEEDER AND NO LINES APEAR CHECK THE SMALL GLASS WINDOW UNDER THE DOC FEEDER THERE MAY BE SOME TIPEX OR INK RUBBED OFF AND LEFT ON THE GLASS THERE.. THISD MIGHT BE CAUSING THE STREAKS YOU CAN CHECK THIS BY PUTTING THE PAGE IN THE DOC FEEDER AND DOING A COPY AND THEN PUT IT ON THE GLASS PLATE UNDER THE LID AND DO A COPY OR IF HOOKED UP TO COMPUTER DO A PRINT JOB.. IN NO STEAK APPEARS YOU CAN BE SURE ITS ON THE THIN SCANNER GLASS.. GOOD LUCK ...a
Replace the Drum Unit, Do you know how to rebuilt this unit, if not you can get an after market product, The Drum unit release is in the Middle of the Copiers you will see a door , open the door, then ONLY , and i do mean ONLY, touch the "Green" release lever for the drum take it out and replace it or rebuilt it f you now how, if this does solve it, which i am certain it will but, if it doesn't something is wrong with the fusing unit and needs to be dismantled, wish i could give you our contact info however, been informed not too so sorry. rules of fixya.com
TRY TO CLEAN THE RUBBER ON FEEDING PAPER WITH A DRY CLEAN CLOTH AND DROP A SOME ALCOHOL IN CLOTH AND CHECK THE PAPER PATH IF HAVE SOME A LITTLE PAPER ON PATH PAPER...
ABOUT CATRIDGE...TRY TO REPLACE A NEW CATRIDGE.. DO THIS NECESSARY UR COPIER IS ON.
