When you plug the charger into the back of the ds, the orange light comes on very briefly, then goes off and the battery does'nt charge and the console wont power up.
I've tested the battery and the charger on a volt meter both, seem to be ok, but cant rule them out as causes.Any ideas?

my battery is just fine i already replaced it. yet my nds still wont turn on the light turns orange then turns off. id be thankful if anyone could help

I see the exact same thing. When I plugin the power adapter, the orange light turns on and immediately off again. Nothing more. No green light, nothing at all. I'm not sure if the battery is drained, but it definitely isn't charging. I can also rule out the charger, have tried others. Any news?

I had the same problem, but luckily we have two DSs. I found that a working DS does the orange light flicker if it has no battery so figured it was a battery problem. Turns out that the battery had leaked a little and the contacts on the battery *and* the unit had furred up so there was no connection to one of terminals. The confusing part was that, because *both* contacts were furred up switching the battery with a good DS changed nothing - and the good DS didn't work with the bad battery. I will change the leaking battery, but whilst I wait the old one seems fine.

A word of warning, whilst the battery cover is off be careful with the DS otherwise the little nut that the cover screws into can drop into the machine! I had to remove a few screws to get the blighter out!

Need more info. Is that when you are charging? Does the light turn green when you turn it on? Do you have a crack in your hinge?
Possible causes:
1. Battery will not charge anymore. - Get new battery
2. Flat cable to upper screen is bad.
3. Flat cable to bottom screen is bad.

Have an experienced video game repair person do any fixes to the screens. The chance is to great for total trashing of your system by inexperience.

Simple... You can either send it back to Nintendo if in warranty, if not you can pay them £30 to fix it OR you can buy an external charger for £9 from gameathlon.com and charge your battery that way! I had the same problem, so i now charge my ds battery externaly and plug it in and play!

I got my DS in 2009 april, then on september i lost my charger then on march 2010 i found my charger then i found out i could'nt find my DS anymore a few months later i found my DS i charged then it...

The red LED indicates low power. When the DS is charging an orange LED should be on and the DS can be switched on, giving a second green light. If you tried charging it but the orange LED did not come on or only came on for a few seconds then the battery has not charged. The charger may be faulty or the power connector on the DS may be faulty. You need to try another charger. If another charger does not work then the DS is faulty and needs repair. It could be the power connector or the battery or some other fault inside.
If the amber LED comes on to indicate that the battery is charging then the battery should be fully charged within 3 hours. If the DS does not switch on after charging then the battery may be faulty. It can be removed by opening the cover on the bottom of the DS.
You should try and find a friend with a DS who will let you try their charger and battery in your DS.
If the DS itself is faulty it will probably be uneconomical to repair. If this is the case then try selling it on ebay as a faulty DS.

Tip

DS Lite stopped working. Green/Orange light Flicker On then Off.

Hi,

Has your DS lite stopped working? does the green/orange light momentarily stay on? Here are a few tips to help you on your way to repairing your DS lite.

These are the three top reasons for the above faults:

1) One of the screens is either not correctly connected or has devlouped a fault... If one of the screens flickers after you switch it on and just before the green light goes out then the screen that doesn't flicker is causing the problem, firstly try reconnecting it and if that doesn't work you will have to replace it, both screens are avaliable for a reasonable fee on ebay, search for either "DS lite top screen" or DS lite bottom screen".
(if you need help with replacing the screens check out my other tips and tricks I have issued on here).

2) Locate the inductor labled "L2" if this is missing then you will need to either solder it back on if you can find it or else you can buy another one again on ebay for a reasonable fee, search for "DS lite L2".

3) If both the above fail then chances are you have blown a fuse, if you can charge the DS then it is not your "F1" fuse in which case you will only need to replace the "F2" fuse, firstly desolder the old fuse and then solder on the replacement fuse, this should solve the issue. If however the charging light stays on for a very brief time (i.e 1-2secs) then you will have to replace the "F1" fuse, locate the "F1" fuse and follow the sames steps stated for the "F2" fuse. These fuses are also found on ebay, search for "ds lite fuse" and buy the quantity you require.

If you don't have access to soldering equipment or are unable to solder these very small parts (i.e fuse dimensions - 1.5 mm x 0.8 mm and the "L2" inductor dimensions - 2.5mm x 1.8mm x 1.8mm) The is a product called wire glue which is avaliable from ebay (located in the USA) which is fantastic as it is a glue with conductive properties.

You may find guides that tell you to "bridge" the fuses and "L2" inductor but I would strongly advise against this, afterall they are there for a reason and just think what damage would have happend if that fuse hadn't have blown.

Here is an image for the location of the fuses, also if you look just under the power switch you will see the "L2" inductor:

I hope this helps and have to say that I accept no responsability for any damage that may occur to your DS lite when following these tips.

Nintendo ds wont charge

cheekiemunke,

First of all, your DS Lite is charging both ways.....with power on and without power on.
You have for almost 99% sure a blown fuse F2 on the systemboard.
If you can solder you can try to replace it with a new one but be adviced, it is tricky if you don't have the skills with soldering SMD components and it can send your DS lite to the trash.
So my advice is find someone that repair DS Lites or order a fuse on eBay and try it yourself.

Regards

John

Ds light not coming on and charger not working

When I hooked up my DS with the charger the orange light would flicker for only a few seconds then turn off.

I found out that if you KEEP THE DS ON WHILE HOOKED UP the DS will charge. Although, because you are playing/DS is on the charging will go extremely slowly.

Best option, and what I did, was was just return/exchange it. I just did that today.
