This is something to try:

Download drivers for your wireless device from this website. Afterward uninstall your wireless adapter. Then re-install it using the drivers you just downloaded. That should repair the issue(s), if not let me know and we'll take a look at other possibilities.

Uninstall the driver you are using, and install the one from here:

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/NETWORK-CARD/OTHER-NETWORK-CARDS/Linksys-Wireless-G-PCI-WMP54G-101.shtml

That'll work in XP and if you want to see if a newer version is available that is compatible with XP, you can Update Driver from the Device Manager and that'll find and install the latest one that still has XP support.

Try this first:
Shutdown PC. Take adapter out. Boot. Install software. Shutdown PC. Put adapter back in. Boot.
If that doesn't work try this:

Shut down the pc before removing or installing adapter.Uninstall device, uninstall software, remove all oem*.inf and oem*.pnf for Linksys products (searched by keyword "Linksys"). Also one of Microsoft drivers was provided for this so I've decided to change its name. After reboot and normal installation procedure everything works ok.

To delete the necessary files go to www.linksys.com/easy and use Netcheck. Easy because this great tool will automatically set-up and install the device for you.
