Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook

Changing Bios battery

I have an old Acer Travelmate which has been dead for years (the hard drive is damaged and it wouldn`t boot up). I got it going recently and want to use it again but it cannot retain date and time settings. I think I am right in saying that the internal battery (bios battery?) needs changed. I had a go at opening the thing up but couldn`t and didn`t want to break it! So, can anyone supply me with detailed instructions as to how to do this? Once it is opened, does the battery just unplug or is it soldered in to place?

Re: Changing Bios battery

All of the acer manuals can be downloaded from Acer's website.

Simply figure out what model your Travelmate is, and download the manual from here:

(use the next/prev page buttons on this page to go through the manuals, there's a lot more models than whats just on this one page)

Hi there it's not a software problem. It is Hardware problem, Your screen can't afford the loadisit Acer service center you need to test your screen connectivity from Motherboard. May be its damaged. So don't go for format every time becouse, its not good for HDD life.

My laptop Acer TravelMate CL51-15 doen't start up. the message is ''no boot divice found'' and i can't open my bios for configuration

first of all, you must find a way to get in the BIOS. You can google search ACER TRAVELMATE CL51-15 BIOS updater. ensure that the laptop is connected to the charger befre you do any BIOS update. then you should be able to detect the hard drive and install you desired OS.

Installing windows on acer notebook help

you cannot usually switch installed operating systems from computer to computer like that and still expect windows to boot, but with windows 98 it *might* work.

to install windows 98 on the usb drive, insert and boot from the windows 98 disk like you were to install it on that computer , and then, it should, before it formats any drives, give you a choice of what drive to format.

How do I replace a dead cmos on acer 4520LCi travelmate laptop? The laptop no longer keeps track of system time when shut off completely. Can you tell me the exact location of the cmos so I can be able to...

what you replace is not the CMOS, but the CMOS battery.

On an ACER from those years the CMOS battery looks like a coin, or a coin wrapped in plastic and connected to the motherboard.

On most models from same series the battery is located on the lower side of the motherboard, like on picture below:

On some model the battery may be located underneath the keyboard.

Here disassembly instructions for a similar model.

Bios not find hard disk

If the laptop cannot detect the hard drive. This can be caused by a faulty disk controller, or a faulty disk drive.

1st. Reseat the hard drive and see if the laptop boots up.

2nd. Go into the BIOS configuration and see if the BIOS detects the hard drive.

3rd. If the BIOS can't detect the hard disk, the remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer detects this drive as an external disk drive and you can see the contents of the hard drive, then the hard drive is OK and the fault is in the laptop.

4th. If the hard drive cannot be detected then the hard drive is faulty, you need to replace the faulty hard drive in your laptop and install Windows to get an operating laptop again.
