Question about Whirlpool GHW9100L Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Interface won't power up

I just recently acquired a used GHW9100L2 and found that the front panel interface won't power up when the Control ON button is depressed (no matter how long you hold it). However, if I flick the switch on the power strip to which it plugged off and on several times, it will and everything works (for the most part) as it should. Any suggestions aside from buying a new panel?

Check the solder joints on relays, and re-seat the cables.

Had F70 &F71 changed ccu and ui won't power up just beeps

Even after they replacing the CCU and the MCU, I still kept getting the three beeps and the F70 Error... the fix was replacing the front controller boards (where the knobs and buttons are). check your connections also, and that they are in the proper slot.

Kenmore washer HE3T mod # 110.49972602. Unit had F70 error code. Unplugged and replugged. Now, no display on panels, power button beeps 3 times but nothing else.

Hi

F70 is a communication error between the central control unit and the user interface. First check the continuity of the user interface harness and then check the wire harness connections to the user interface and the central control unit. If the drum rotates then replace the user interface, if the drum is not moving then replace the central control unit (CCU). Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

The only button on the panel that will light up is the 4 hr delay nothing else happens

This type of diagnosis will require taking voltage readings at the control board with a meter to find the root cause of the failure. Please see the rest of the information provided & the images below for the accessing, testing & replacement instructions.

1). Put the washer into the Diagnostic Test Mode per the Tech Sheet. 2). Did the Right Hand Interface light up? 3). IF the Right Hand Interface did not light up in Step 2 check for 5 VDC on the UIP3 wire connector coming off of the control board to the Right Hand Interface from (Pin 1 to Pin 2) and from (Pin 1 to Pin 3). 4). IF you do not have the 5 VDC then remove the MI3 connector from the Machine Control board. IF the display lights; replace the Motor Control board. IF the display does not light; replace the Machine Control Board. 5). IF you do have the 5 VDC then replace the Right Hand User Interface. 6). IF the Right Hand Interface does light up. Lock the controls by pressing the control lock button for 3 seconds. 7). Once the control has been locked press the power pad. IF the control lock light blinks when the power button is pressed it tells us the power button is sending the output from being pressed to the right hand interface but the right hand interface is not responding and will need to be replaced. 8). IF the control lock light does not blink when the power button is pressed replace the center user interface.

Whirlpool WFW9400SZ01 F71 flashing

The F70 and F71 error codes on this model of washer indicates a communication problem between the user interface control board and the central control unit (main control board). These error codes can sometimes be caused by a power surge or glitch through the electrical lines. Try unplugging the washer to completely disconnect electrical power. Wait 1 minute and then plug the washer back in to the see if the fault code clears. If it does, then the washer may work normally.

If the code reappears, then you could have a wire harness connection problem, a failed user interface control board or a failed central control unit. I recommend calling a service technician to properly diagnose and repair this type of problem so that the correct component can be replaced.

Be sure your unit is plugged into a 3 prong grounded outlet as well.

F71 is a "heatbeat failure" which means that your front interface control board is shorted and will need to be replaced. it's actually fairly easy to replace and can definitely be done by yourself. To access the part, just pull the unit forward and remove the 3 screws coming in from the back of the top panel. Remove the top panel by pulling it back, up, and off. Then remove all the screws going into the top of the control panel. Remove the dispenser drawer and remove the screws coming in through the dispenser. Remove the screws coming from the inside of the dryer going forward into the control panel, then remove the control panel (it's just clipped in on the bottom. After that you can disconnect the wire harnesses to the front interface control board and replace that part.

The Hold to start button is not starting the washer anymore. It used to work but it no longer makes the click that used to start the washer. It seems to be stuck

The user interface board is not serviceable and it requires to be replaced when it is not working properly or when a button is stuck. The procedure is quiet easy and you can do it yourself.

Disconnect power to the washer prior to servicing to avoid electric shock.

Remove the three screws attaching the rear of the top panel to the back of the washer then slide the panel rearward, and then lift it off the washer.

Disconnect the 7-terminal user interface ribbon connector from the left side of the central control unit.

Pull the dispenser drawer out until it stops; press down the release tab then pull the drawer completely out of the washer.

Remove the screw in the recessed hole at the left of the drawer opening. Press and release the tab securing the right side of the console to the cabinet.

Open the washer door then insert the blade of a flat-bladed screwdriver into the slot at the bottom center of the console then push the console up to release the tab attaching its bottom to the cabinet.

Gently pry up and release the top of the console then pull it off the washer.

Pull the cycle selector knob off the control panel then release the tabs securing the user interface/LED assembly to the control panel. Lift the user interface/LED assembly from the control panel once all of the tabs are released.

Inspect the Hold to Start button and the alleged stuck membrane in the user interface board. Replace the button if it is broken. Try your luck by trying to unstuck the stuck membrane. If no luck at all, replace the user interface assembly.

Install the new user interface/LED assembly into the control panel by inserting it into the tabs from one side to the other until it is completely secured, and then reinsert the cycle selector knob.

Align the console tabs with the slots in the cabinet then insert the tabs into position. Secure the left side of the console with the screw previously removed, and then slide the dispenser drawer back in place.

Reconnect the user interface ribbon connector to the central control unit then slide the top panel back into position and secure it with the three securing screws.

Note: The user interface assembly part number may differ from version to version of the same model. The version is indicated by the last digit of the model number so make sure to indicate the complete model number of your washer located on the left side of the door opening.

1. Check for continuity of the User Interface harness.
2. Check wire harness connections to the User Interface and the Central Control Unit.
3. Replace User Interface if drum is rotating.
4. Replace Central Control Unit if drum is not moving
I have reseated the cable between the CCU and the User Interface panel (panel has the buttons & lights on it)

Dryer control locked light is on and dryer won't start!

Press the Reset Button for 1 minute see if it resets?
or
Are the lights lights DIM on the interface panel ( front of unit with buttons & lights) If so Turn power off to the dryer then you need to remove the top of the dryer lid off and locate the two ribbon cables that go between the CCU and the interface board. as well as two small ribbon cables between the two parts of the interface panel. use a paper clip or screw driver press on the center tab and reset each cable one at a time. Then turn unit back on and try it again.

if none works it could be CCU or Interface panel

How to remove the top Right Plastic Cover where electric controls

Unplug the washer and remove the top panel. The panel comes off by removing the three scews that hold it in place in the rear. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off. This should give you access the the interface control board. The entire assembly should just snap in place. You may just have a control board that has become detached on the side that you are having problems with. Use care if you have to disassemble. If the interface control board (the electronics portion) works just fine, but you find that the control panel is damaged and cannot be repaired, you can replace the entire control panel (without the interface board) for about $70. Searspartsdirect.com carries the part and has exploded view diagrams you can use for reference. If you need to remove the entire panel from the washer to work on it, follow these steps:

1. Again, make sure the washer is unplugged.

2. Remove the washer top panel by removing the three torx-type screws (or 7mm) where it attaches in the rear of the washer. The panel should slide back, and then lift off.

3. Remove the operator console by removing the dispenser and the scew(s) behind it. Take a putty knife and insert it under the console seam right above the door. If you push in slightly while pulling outwards the panel pops off. Use care not to pull or damage any of the wiring.

4. Carefully disconnect the wiring harness and lay on a flat surface where you can have better access to view the internal components.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.
