Ok ~ I have a DLF code. Can not start the washer (Kenmore Elite HE4T) I have loaded the machine, push the start button, it goes beep 3x and displays the DLF code. Help me please!

  • sb1936 May 08, 2008

Our model is Elite HE4t, 45081. The code "dL F"appears on the display when the door is closed and the "Start" botton is pressed. The machine doesn't work. Normal/Casual cycle is selected. Then rattling sounds (like the contacts of an electric relay getting into contact each other intermittently) is heard after the door is closed. No way to get the washer back to work.

Hi - I also own a Kenmore HE3 and recently been getting the same scenario: I select my wash cycle etc, then when I go to hit start I get a delayed series of clicks and it does appear that a connection isn't being made then I do get an FdL code on the little read out. I have found out that it stands for the Door Lock. I had a Sears repairman/technician come out yesterday for 65.00 to tell me that it reads as a door look malfunction but the only way to fix it is to replace the computer in the machine which would end up being over $400.00 to fix. He further told me that there was a two year manufacture warranty on the computer part and it was extended by the manufacturer to three year and of course I am in my fourth year. I tried to whine my point that seems a but unfair that as a consumer I would have to pay this now when it seems to be a faulty product and I am only in the 4th year and he wouldn't budge so I didn't go forward with the repair and will be doing some investigation first. Lucky enough I have also had luck getting it to start again by unplugging the maching for a while then replugging it and it does eventually start. Good luck with yours!!

Folks ~ seems to me that this problem is reoccurring. I would like to know if my computer can be replaced since my model is 3 years old. Please forward details. I was able to troubleshoot my own problem. If you make sure the little piece within the door lock is pushed up (use your figure) it will start again.

Same Issue, I"ve also had other errors that are indicative of a loose cable or faulty computer.

I have a HE 4t 45891 and when the button is pushed to start, all I hear is a clicking noise like the computer is trying to connect and is unable to do so. F will flash and then it reads dl. I really need my washing machine to work!!!! I bought it from Sears, but my past experiences with their repairmen has been very expensive and not satisfactory. Any ideas

Well, add one more customer to this long list. Over the past 3 months we have had the same DL-F code. First two times it was resolved by unpluggin the flipping machine. This time however I had to take the top off and thanks for the postings removed the DL3 connector, then plugged it back in.

Presto, after pluggin the machine back in... guess what >>>> IT NOW WORKS AGAIN... until next time ;-(

Thanks to all for your posts. I never had a Sears tech out and never will. My wife did go to Sears and ask them what this code was... and now surprisingly, they did not know.

There are 3 screws on the top back of machine, unscrew and remove top of machine. The wires come loose from spining, just ensure all wires are secure. I've been dealing with this problem for almost a year. Sometimes all I have to do is unplug and wait 30 seconds and re-plug, other times I have to wiggle the wires and ensure conection is secure. Yeah, $400.00 is an awful lot when you have already invested so much in a QUAILITY??? machine. I don't know why they don't offer a computer replacement package for this problem when its obivious that its thier mistake.

After several hours of research, I ordered a door lock, not hard to put in but that was not the issue, Yes I received a DL F code, but reading others comments I took off the top of the lid and traced the DL3 connector and unplunged it several times and my machine works fine... again I believe it's just a connector issue where the CCU board is not making a good connection with the compression pins.

Find the CCU on the top of the machine, find the DL3 connection and just unplug/replug it several times. This may answer why someone said HIT the machine on the back right would help.

Hi - I also started having this problem with my Kenmore HE3. After selecting my wash cycle etc and hit start I get a delayed series of clicks and then get a FdL error code on my digital read out. I have found out that the error code stands for "door lock". Yesterday I had a Sears technician/repairman come out to my home for 65.00 to take a look at it and he said that it is in fact the door lock error code but he has repaired others and the only way to repair the problem was to replace the computer in the machine which would have been 425.01 with parts and labor. He further explained that there was a two year manufactures warranty on the part and the manufacturer extended it to three years and of course I am in my fourth year. I whined that I did take a PM for two years and it doesn't seem right that after paying as much as I did for this washer that replacing the computer seems to be a faulty product or manufacters defect and seems that it should have been recalled or replaced for my washer and he said no that I am past the three years so like anything else I would need to pay to repair it. Needless to say was not happy with the outrageous cost and customer service that he provided. I found it a bit untrustworthy that my washer is giving a "door lock" error code, and the technician is saying that I need to replace the whole computer in the machine in order to fix the problem. I did not accept the work on the estimate that he provided. Lucky I also have been able to get the washer to start after unplugging it for a while and then plugging back in. Not sure how long I will be able to do that before it goes completely out. If anyone else has had any better luck on getting this problem repaired/fixed for a reasonable solution would love to hear about it. The more I have dealt with Sears repairmen/technicians the more I am convinced that they are scam artists. In the meantime I have this expensive Front Loader that is malfunctioning!!

I had the same issue. Found it to be the door lock mechanism was jammed. It was locked, however the relay was not getting a signal that it was locked. Since the door was locked I had to first figure out how to unlock it. Found that if I took the top cover off, I could reach down inside the unit and at the bottom of the door lock mechanism was a protruding piece of plastic. Pushing UP on this caused the door to unlock. I then (after rescuing the clothes trapped inside) removed the door lock mechanism. This was simple, three screws and three wire harness connectors. Disassembling (carefully) the mechanism showed a piece of plastic from the internal slider mechanism had come loose and lodged in between the contactors. So while the door was locked, it wasn't getting a signal to the computer that it was locked. Luckily this small piece of plastic wasn't necessary for the operation of the unit so reassembling it and reinstalling it fixed the problem. I plan to order a replacement unit JUST IN CASE because there is another plastic "wing" on the other side of this slider mechanism and once it breaks off, the unit won't function at all.
ALL this for a .02 cent piece of plastic.
The internet saved me a hundred dollar service call though, and I'm sure if I called Sears they wouldn't try to fix the broken unit, they'd just tell me I needed a new one.

I JUST FIXED MY DL FLASHING PROBLEM. I WENT TO THE LOCAL PARTS STORE (LA MESA APPLIANCE). I BOUGHT A NEW DOOR LOCK . I UNPLUGGED ALL THE CONNECTION THEN PUGGED THEM BACK IN AND IT WAS FIXED. $51 WAS THE TOTAL COST.

The only thing I could do for a temp fix was select "whitest whites" & just change the settings (ie. hot to cold, 2nd rinse to single rinse, etc.........)

I had the same problem with my HE3t. The solution was to unplug the unit from the wall and wait about 30 minutes. It was an electrical glitch. Then plug in,press "drain and spin", then "Start". Let the machine purge all the water and then you can examine the wash to see what needs to be done. The machinre will operate OK.

Dl flashes and won't restart

Hi. Without model # I can't be certain but, (UNPLUG machine) if you remove the panel under the door and reach up along the right side of the tub, you can feel a little lever with a lood on it to unlock the door so that you can atleast get your close out. It sounds like the door switch has gone bad.
I hope this helps. Please let me know.

"dL" indicates Door Lock Failure: dL flashes if the following conditions occur:
Door lid is not closed completely due to interference.
Wash media buildup is preventing the lock bolt from extending.
Machine/motor control detects open door lid switch when attempting to lock.
Machine/motor control cannot determine if door lock is in a locked state.
Check for lock interference with lid or lock bezel
