Re: bandwidth measurement over network
I assume you are building a website and or some other interactive (over the net) application. There are a variety of tools available (free) to monitor you connection on a single computer. The issue I believe you face is "will my application run efficiently"...that question has to to do with how big it is, how well constructed it is, what languages you are using (in addition to Java) if any, etc....all complicated issues....but fortunately, since I assume you will upload to a server those issues do not have to be solved by you. Unless your project is huge....(or you really do something strange in Java)...there is no reason it will not run. Finally....the real test is to upload it to the server and then access it yourself. If it comes up reasonably quick you are okay for most of the world (Win98 and up). Hope I answered or at least relieved you of some anxiety.

Your wireless network card is more than sufficient to handle the bandwidth provided by your DSL connection. A "1.5" DSL connection refers to a 1.5Mbps DSL line. Your network card is an 802.11G network card. Simply put, your network card will only run at a maximum of 54Mbps, far short of your 802.11N router's maximum speed, but provides more than enough room for the bandwidth provided by your Internet Service Provider. Gigabit connections (connections with speeds measured in 'Gbps') are almost exclusively for private networks or corporate networks with Fiber Optic connections.
In layman's terms, you can get a newer network card for your computer that will improve the speeds between your laptop and any other computers on your network, but as long as your network card is supported by any modern operating system, odds are it is able to transfer data fast enough to keep up with your DSL connection
I personally use NetWorx. Witch is a free and simple, yet powerful tool that helps you objectively evaluate your bandwidth situation. You can use it to collect bandwidth usage data and measure the speed of your Internet or any other network connection. NetWorx can help you identify possible sources of network problems, ensure that you do not exceed the bandwidth limits specified by your ISP, or track down suspicious network activity characteristic of Trojan horses and hacker attacks. The program allows you to monitor all your network connections or a specific network connection (such as Ethernet or PPP) only. The software also features a system of highly customizable visual and sound alerts. You can set it up to alert you when the network connection is down or when some suspicious activity, such as unusually heavy data flow, occurs. It can also automatically disconnect all dial-up connections and shut down the system. The incoming and outgoing traffic is represented on a line chart and logged to a file, so that you can always view statistics about your daily, weekly and monthly bandwidth usage and dial-up duration. The reports can be exported to a variety of formats, such as HTML, MS Word and Excel, for further analysis. With NetWorx you can • Find out and monitor how fast your Internet connection is. • Find out and monitor how much Internet traffic you consume. • Verify whether your ISP charges your Internet usage fairly. • Detect a suspicious network activity on your computer. • Perform simple network tests such as ping and trace route. • Be notified about excessive Internet usage You can download it from here.

hello there i have built many wifi networks and install networks for server hosts. I would try setting your port forward to the correct port that xbox live runs on. also uncheck Qos (quality of service) this will throttle bandwidth, you want this off.
check your bandwidth if this is with in 80% of the internet speed given by your ISP you can determine by using the www.speedtest.net site or some other sites that measures the speed of internet prior from this you need to delete the cookies. temporary internet files and history. if your bandwidth seems to be below from the speed of internet which you applied for, you need to report to the technical supports of your ISP to fix the problem.
