Well firstly i have no idea what our guest has posted as a suggestion, but mine would be somewhat different.

Firstly, CD's have a tendency to scratch badly when being dragged back and forth inside the tray.

  1. Do not try to open the unit with the usual operation, as this may damage both the CD's and possibly the lazer inside.
  2. I would consider the suggestion that it should not take long for a repair center to remove the cover and retrieve the CD's with minimal fuss or damage to either the unit or CD's.
  3. Smaller components may become damaged and or any debris that is allowed to come adrift inside the unit may cling to the lazer, or other components. This is why i suggest having the unit looked at by a professional.

Cd tray won’t open

In the good old days, a CD drive would always have a small hole in the front. To open the tray, you would straighten a paper clip and press a button about 1/2" inside the hole. This releases the latch and starts the tray coming out where you can grab it.

Dell cd drive door won't open

CD/DVD Drive Tray problems
There are two ways to open the CD/DVD drive door if the button just below the drive tray does not work.
Go to My Computer and right click on the drive and click on Eject.
If this does not work then you can manually open the CD/DVD drive tray by -
Straighten a paper clip and gently insert it into a tiny hole below the drive tray next to the Eject button. Push the paper clip gently until the drive tray pops out, then pull the tray until it is fully out, then you can remove the CD/DVD disc.
If you still having problem opening with the Eject button, then the CD/DVD drive is faulty and needs replacing.

Cd player door won't open

cd/rw drive has shifted due to unit being bumped, Tray is binding or blocked. Remove the back panel. Remove 4 screws on the bottom holding cd drive. Now you can push the drive slightly back. On the left side of the drive there is a white nylon cam. Push in with a screwdriver and the tray will open so you can manually remove your cd. You should be able to cycle the tray open and closed now. Replace the four screws but cycle several times after tightening each screw. Replace the back.

CD DOOR WON'T OPEN

Just below the CD/DVD tray there is a tiny hole. Insert a straighten paper clip in this hole and gently push the paper clip until the CD/DVD tray pops out. You can now pull the tray out until it is in the fully opened position to remove the disc.
Try pushing the eject button to see if the tray closes, then push the eject button to see if the tray opens.
If this foes not work then the CD/DVD drive is faulty and it needs to be replaced.
