Question about Frigidaire ATF6000ES Front Load Washer
My 7-year-old machine "finished" a cycle - dial was at end, lights out and latch released, but clothes were wet and soapy. The timer had apperently kept running during the rinse stage, but the drum did not spin and the water did not drain.
Emptied the tank, siphoned off the water. Fill works ok, but machine does not spin or drain.
I called the support number attached to the machine (866 203 1839) and got a redirect to an Electrolux service maze.
Located a local service provider on the Electrolux support tree and he diagnoses bad water pump. He replaces pump, fills the tank, runs it through a spin cycle and pronounces it fixed.
I was one load successfully. Second load "finishes" with dial at end of cycle, tank full of soapy water. Machine does not spin.
The washer bears a plate with a toll-free number leading to a phone maze for support. I ultimately reached a list of local (within my state and metropolitan area) service providers. I called the nearest one and a serviceman came to my home within a few days.
I asked what could cause the failure and the repairman told me that a coin could enter the waste stream and block the pump, causing it to overheat. The failed pump turned out to have a nickel inside.
The repairman quoted me prices for brand new and slightly used water pumps. I elected to go with a used pump, but was a bit disappointed that the repairman did not have a replacement pump with him. After a few more days waiting, my washer was back on-line. Unfortunately, the replacement pump failed two cycles after installation. By then I had read about the involvement of the controller board in some cases of water pump failure.
I spent a few anxious days of phone tag and missed appointments (indicative of a low- to moderately-skilled operator) before having to threaten the operator with reversal of the credit card charges. The repairman returned promptly with a new pump and installed it with no additional charges.
My washer has been satisfactorily functioning since (about a month). I would rate this operator (Check Appliances of Los Angeles) as satisfactory regarding demonstrated technical skill and knowledge, but needing to improve in customer service.
