MB seems to be auto-detect but wont reconize this 2.8GHz cpu ?? can anyone shed some light on this for me, thank you
On page 13 of this manual: Microprocessor (varies by model type): Intel® Pentium® 4 processor with 256 KB or 512 KB of internal L2 cache memory and Intel NetBurst™ micro-architecture.
It seems that the computer's motherboard does not support Intel P4 processors with more than 512 KB of internal L2 cache. That's why your P4 2.8GHz/1M/533 Prescott processor did not work. You will have to either buy another processor with 512 KB L2 cache, or replace your motherboard with one which supports the new processor.

You will get this message when you install a CPU that is not supported by the mainboard BIOS. Many older mainboards have sockets that will support much more powerful CPUs than they were originally manufactured for. In some cases, the BIOS may be upgradeable to support the new CPU, in others, the CPU may draw too much power or the mainboard chipsets will not support the CPU capabilities. If your CPU is on the list of compatible CPUs...you may need to upgrade the BIOS to support it. You will need to install a CPU that the mainboard will run with to do the BIOS upgrade prior to installing the new CPU, however.
I cannot directly answer that question because you did not supply the motherboard model number. You will have to look this up yourself, here is the url for Mercury support http://www.mercury-pc.com/downloads.php
The model number is usually printed on the motherboard, find it and you can download the manual, specs and drivers.
on mb with intel 865 the bigest CPU is pentium 4 @ 3GHz. socket 478
however your MB might require to update microcode for the new CPU.
one more thing: this chipset Intel 865 is obsolete, and intel does not manufacture this cpu type anymore.
Unless the mobo is compliant with a front side bus speed of 333mhz, the cpu you have will only run at 266mhz max, in other words the cpu will down-clock to the 266mhz bus clock and therfore run more slowly. check with the mbo handbook, or on CMOS tosee if yoy can change the fsb setting. ask for more help if needed. Can you give me the full code of the mobo ?
Hi, the system you have shouldnt take 10mins to loads, sounds more like spyware or viruses on your pc, i see pcs everyday running like old machines and its usually viruses are the problem or your running the new version of Norton antivirus alot of the time can slow your machine down that much, if you uninstall any virus checkers you have and download this.
