Ignitor isnt working

The oven ignitor should have a resistance reading of about 3.2 to 3.6 ohms. If the readings are out of this specification or show open replace the ignitor. measure the resistance of the oven valve. The gas valve should have about 1.5 ohms of resistance. If the gas valve is OK, the control board is suspect. The ignitor needs 120vac to work.

Oven wont heat.

Glowbar: has continuity and is pulling 3,5 amps or better
Gas oven valve: has continuity between terminals
Oven control has continuity and is supplying voltage to the ignitor and valve.

Whirlpool Range Model # SF317PEYW1 oven fails to light. The igniter glows but oven will not light.

The ignitor, while glowing, may not be allowing the proper amount of current to flow through it to the oven gas valve for it to open. Proper testing requires an ammeter to check the current flow through the ignition circuit to the oven bake/broil valve.

Just because the ignitor glows does not mean it isn't bad. This is a common mis-conception.

If I were betting I would say your ignitor is probably bad.

Oven wont light on whirlpool gas range

The problem is usually the ignitor not reaching the correct amp draw .When the ignitor does not reach the correct amp draw it may allow the gas valve to partially open or not open at all. The ignitor is inexpensive and easy to replace. There is a video at this will walk you thru the correct procedure for performing this test. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. Not all models are available.

Ignitor needs to be working for the gas valve to open. If the ignitor does not reach the proper amp draw the gas valve will not open. There is a video at this will walk you thru performing an amp draw test on the ignitor.

Whirlpool gas oven-Super Capacity 465

When you turned the oven off, if the ignitor went off and the gas kept flowing then the thermal valve is defective. Maybe that was the problem all along.

The range on Whirlpool Super Capacity 465 will not ignite

You need to replace the oven ignitor. This is located under the bottom pan of the oven. Take out the racks and then remove the 2 screws from the back section of the lower plate. Then you will find the ignitor. The ignitor may still get red but the ignitor has to draw enough current to open the gas valve. This is a very common problem. Replace the ignitor and this will fix your problem.

Whirlpool gas range

sounds like you have 2 problems the first the oven wont light is either a ignitor issue or a gas valve problem even though the ign. glows it may not be drawing enough amps to open the should be 3.5-5.2 amps at full glow.. have checked that? the over cooking sounds like a thermostat issue.not a lighting issue

Re:Whirlpool SF310PKE gas range

When the oven safety valve refuses to open and let gas through, it's almost always because not enough current is flowing through the ignitor. Often an aging ignitor will appear to be glowing pretty brightly but still won't draw enough current to make the valve open. The first thing to try replacing is the ignitor.

You describe your ignitor as "red and glowing" but oven ignitors normally get a lot brighter than "red" -- well into what I'd call yellow.
