This same thing happened to me. i only had my sidekick for 4 months, but along with the sound (i would call people and hear them say helloooo helloooo??? but they couldnt hear anything i said) went the main backliglht.
when you sidekicks screen is open try pulling it towards you and look where the rotator is...there should be a little green or white square...if its red that means you have water damage which is what happened to me. its realllly succeptible to water, even steam will get you.
but if thats not the problem then take it to a tmobile store and hopefully your warrantyw will help

I have the same problem.
Mine started doing the same thing yesterday! Didn't work in the morning, then started working late last night, but doesn't work today.
Also, I started getting some text messages as picture messages. Is this a service problem, or is my phone messed up?
Checked the water damage sticker...still white, so it didn't get wet. Restarting the phone does not fix the problem.
my side kick has water damage in the back but not in the front under the screen how do i fixxxx it.
the microphone on my sidekick 3 doesn't work. does it have to be replaced?
