You can buy a new PCI card with ethernet plugs or a new usb card, and with a minimum of fuss, install it yourself. Make sure you ground yourself to some metal on the case before removing or installing the card. To be safe, check the specs of your system by entering the service tag # at Dell.com, so you can make sure the new cards you purchase are compatible with your older system. Or, if you prefer, take it to reliable local tech shop. They may even have good used cards they'll be willing to sell you inexpensively, if they recycle old desktops.
If you search the internet for 'PCI cards' or 'install PCI card', you'll find more details to guide you...
Good luck.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

Hi my LG L1718S monitor wont start from energy saving mode

I had the same problem with my monitor, the problem was that one of the "pins" or "prongs" was bent and mashed flat on the monitor's port plug in cable (the cord from the monitor that plugs into the computer's monitor port). I carefully pried up the prong and straightened it out the best I could and that fixed the problem for me.

How to connect to the internet

You should have a home modem from and ISP (Internet Service Provider) Also If you have a router you need to plug the Ethernet Cord (the cord that looks like a Giant phone line) into the internet port of the router, Now if the router is a wireless router and you want to use the internet wirelessly you need to open your wireless connections and you will see your router in the list. Simply double click the connection and it will automatically connect for you. If you do not have a wireless router and you want to connect more than one computer to the internet,Simply keep the ethernet cord plugged into the internet port on the router and you should have 4 other ports next to each other. Plug another ethernet cord into port 1 and plug into the back or side of computer. That's it. I hope this helped have a good day

2 problems loss of power a xbox 360 console

Check to see if any prongs are touching or bent in the USB ports. When the USB port prongs are bent they sometimes wind up touching the receiver tips of where the USB makes contact with any devices that you plug in. If they are bent just bend them up so they arent touching the metal receivers and that should solve the no power to xbox360.

Cant find the ethernet port on my sony desktop

It should be located on the top right hand side, on the SIDE of the computer. It looks just like a phone jack hook up. Hope this helps. Also, if you don't have one or can't find it you can always plug in an adapter to the telephone line and then you can plug the ethernet cord into that.

Toshiba Cable Modem PCX1100u

OK. First of all you do not need a special or seperate driver for the Ethernet port. Its factory loaded with your OS.

All you need to do is plug the Ethernet cable into the LAN port on your HP Desktop and then into the LAN port (not the WAN port) of your cable modem.

The second thing is if its only a cable modem, then I suggest you proceed with caution as there is NO built-in firewall on a cable modem. Yes you will get on the net, but you are likely to be attacked with virus the moment you connect. I suggest you check very carefully whether the cable modem (if that's what it is) does/does not have a firewall as you would be very unwise connecting up like that.

Next, forget USB connection to the router/cable modem. That technolgy we've moved on from.. Your Vista shodul be 'plug n play' adn should configure the router for you. obviously that bit isn't so slick on yours.

Let me know how you get on..

Ethernet vs. usb

FYI for those people trying to use a ethernet and usb cable from a cable modem - it may work for a while but it won't work forever - your ISP will only allow one IP address out of the modem unless you pay for additional addresses (then you need a switch). Each device you have on the modem is fighting for that IP and eventually it will just quit working (if it works at all).

If you want more than one computer on your network (on the Internet or sharing printers/files, etc) then you need a router or a gateway (cable modem/router combo which I DON'T recommend).
