Hi, I use a Compaq V6608AU laptop. The issue here is with writing a DVD9. DVD ROM: Slimtype DVD A DS8AIP (supports DVD+R DL mode) Using imation 8.5 gb DVD+R DL to burn. Softwares: Nero and DVDfab Platinum ver: 4.0.5 I am able to write CDs or DVD5s with ease. I have tried to write a DL disc using both the softwares to no avail. After a few seconds, the softwares (DVDfab or Nero) stop responding (when I check in the task manager) and the dvd in the drive is rotates violently!! (sorry i do not know if there is a technical term for this). So, i end the process then manually eject the drive. Is this a firmware issue? can anyone help me with this... like i said I am facing an issue only with DVD9.
If the drive is violently rotating, and only doing it for these discs, it may not be able to handle them. This sounds like a product issue (not the software you are using as it funtions ok with past items. Your sytem may not support double layer discs.

Now you can easily build a Blu-ray duplicator with the Athena SATA Blu-ray controller. SATA interface simplifies cable management comparing to IDE with narrower cables and smaller connectors. SATA interface supports cables as long as 90cm without sacrificing data integrity and system reliability. Hence Athena SATA controller can be installed on the top drive bay even in an 11-target tower duplicator. Maximize your productivity and efficiency today with Athena SATA Blu-ray controller.
Features:
Standalone, no PC required.
DDR2 Technology allows up to 8x Blu-ray duplication.
SATA Advantages - Thin cables for easy routing and improved cooling inside the duplicator chassis, increasing product reliability.
Dynamic Hard Drive Partitioning automatically adjusts hard drive partitions based on the size of your master disc.
Master Error Proof prevents duplication failures caused by disc errors. Simply exchange the failed master disc with a working disc without interrupting the duplication process.
Dual-Level Security provides separate Startup and Setup passwords for complete restriction and protection against unauthorized users.
Advanced Diagnosis Mode troubleshoots and sets adjustment for optimal performance.
"This model of computer does not have a blu-ray drive unless you got a third party upgrade. In this case, you will need to track down special drivers, which can best be done by whomever sold you the drive.
It seems that what you have is a combo drive only :( it only recognize DVD reading. no matter what driver you used. need to buy a dvd writer/ that said can write dvd.
