Re: computer wont start windows

It could be a memory problem. or as simple as the contacts of the memory are dirty, just remove the memory then clean the contacts with a pencil eraser.

Why? because it doesn't have enough memory to process Windows. I have experienced a similar problem before. We replaced the memory then it worked.

the seagate drives, often, require a patch to work with some windows installs- especially if it is larger than 3 terabytes, and occasionally, if larger than 1 terabyte. if this is the case, the patch is most easily obtained by emailing customer service.

if this is not the case, please provide more specifics as to your computer, your version of windows, and exactly what it is not doing when you say 'not starting"

My computer reads that it's connected, when I click on the "start" button that looks like the shield to enter my password, nothing happens.

Have you tried it with external drive disconnected? Also, is the usb drive connected directly or through a switch?

Windows will not start with a Toshiba external hard drive plugged into USB

Computer starts normally in windows with a windows that is installed on a hard disk on that copmuter. In other words - windows is installed on an internal hard disk of a computer A. If you get it out and put in a computer B it wont work.

To have the things work:
1. First should set in BIOS boot up options first boot device CD/DVD, second OTHER/USB/EXTERNAL, third HDD
2. Should boot up from a CD and install windows on an external hard disk (in your case your 3TB Toshiba external HD)
3. Set in BIOS boot up options first boot device OTHER/USB/EXTERNAL, second internal hard disk e.g. HDD0, HDD1

The only solution is to get your BIOS flashed. This requires special technical skills so it is recommended for advanced users only.

Another costly solution is to change your motherboard.

Cruzer micro 2.0GB does not work anymore, it started flashing and then it stopped. When connected to USB port the computer does not start and when connected afterwards the device is not recognized by the...

Some times it happens that Windows explore do not recognise the USB flash drives. There may be some causes: 1. Ckheck your flash drive & ensure that it was not burnt or have any physical damage. 2. Start the computer without flash drive and connect the flash drive to it. Noe ensure that your computer is not hanged. If your computer hanged than the flash drive is damaged. 3. if your computer is not hanged and not dectecting the drive,(fore windows) go to My computer, right click, properties, divice manager. In the device list see USB serial bus controllers. click + next to it to see the sub devices. 4. Now see that the computer has a listing for the flash drive. The listing may be as "Usb mass storage device", "Drive company name: etc. 5. If there is listing no listing for flash drive just disconnect it and see the device manager listing. some changes will occur or mouse pointer will show busy. Again reconnect the flash drive the same thing happens. 6. if your flash drive worked as in step 5 that means the the drive is ok and the compueter is ok. There is prblem with driver of flash drive that is currently installed. Please upgrade the driver from your flash drive manufacturer or it is ready to use device just unuinstall it from the device manager listing. Restart the computer. after restart connect the flash drive it will detect the drive. 7. if there is still a problem go to start run & type regedit and press enter to run registry editor. In Hkey_local_machine>software>Cruzer micro and delete it. restart the computer. 8. You wrote that if you connect it to USB port computer does not start. If above step 1 to 7 does not work means there is strong possibality of reading problem means the flash drive has errors on it and file system is damaged. This same thing happens with Cd drive with a cd having corroupt file system. i will prefer to take the flah drive to an local hardware expert or manufacturere.
