Unable to switch off alternate symbols and numbers

I do not know the key combination to switch off the alternate symbols such as when I pres the m key I get 0, or when I press p key I get *. Presently I am using another keyboard attached to the usb outlet to type this. My cat created this situation by taking a nap on the key board. I am sure the problem is easily resolved with the proper key combination. Unfortunately, I don't know them and have no instructions.

Re: Unable to switch off alternate symbols and numbers

You should have a "fn" key or function. Press and hold that button and press the "NumLk" key. That should do it.

Re: Unable to switch off alternate symbols and numbers

I had the same problem on my Sony Vaio; after reading your suggestion, I tried, but it did not work. However, I do have an Alternate key, which did the trick when pressed just before pressing the NumLk key. Without your idea, I would have gone nuts and called Sony.

My number keys doesn't let me type the at sign, or any of the upper case symbols

In some notebooks/laptops, the function key needs to be pressed to use upper case symbols. Mostly, this key is named as Fn. Try using the key, may be in combination with shift key to use upper case symbols.

I have 2 computers with wireless but the msi net will not connect it telling me wireless capabilty is turned off and i dont know how to turn it on

You need to turn it on:
Look for a switch for turning it on. It will be having an icon look alike antena symbol.
If the model of your laptop does not have any switch then look on to the keyboard carefully observe the keys and look if you can find a key with a symbol of antena on it.
Usually F2 swutches on the Wireless or sometimes combination of Fn+F2 switches it on.
Try this and let me know if this works out for you.

Number pad

You can't make the alternate characters like °, ®, ♂, σ etc with a combination number pad. You need to have a seperate number pad. I use a $20 plug in keyboard.

Ten key pad keys are turned on. How do i switch them off

Solution#1: Accidentally pressing Sft+Numlock key combination will activate & inactivates ten key pad. (You'll see light enabled in padlock symbol with a number in it [i.e.beside ALL CAPS symbol on your lap monitor]).

Use: "ShiftKey+NumLock" (NumbLock Key: 2nd panel from Top right on keyboard)

Wireless conection

typically, there is a key combination to turn your wireless on and off. The combination is most often the FN key + F8. If you look at keys F1 thru F12, you will find a key that has a blue symbol that looks like a transmitting antenna. You will need to hit the FN key + the key with that symbol. I, too, have a similar problem, but the key combination is not working. I hope you don't have that problem.
