Question about Maytag Legacy Top Load Washer

Maytag SAV washer leaking all over floor

Repairman came out and said replace the washer - leaking from main bearing/seal. Costs as much to fix than buy a new one with a warranty. Contacted Maytag said they can't help because beyond warranty period and that they don't know of any quality issues with this model.
Any recommendations? (besides don't buy another Maytag!)

I had the same problem. The repairman said Maytag now has a "do not repair" on the Maytag SAV washer but said if I go to the Maytag dealer, I can have $150 to apply on ANY washer. Aggravating because I haven't had it that many years . . . guess that is why the repairman is in the office . . . they declare them unfixable!

So much for the Maytag repairman not being busy!

I have an older Whirpool Ultracare (either a II or III i forget) that i keep out in the garage to wash shop rags... yes, shop rags. Believe me, I load the HELL out of it too.

Never, EVER had a problem with it! And thats running it only off of cold water from a garden hose, and draining out the window :)

I have the exact same washer with the exact same problem. I have a home warranty that covers appliances so when they sent out the Sears technician, he took a list of parts and replaced about 9 things for a grand total of $450. If I didn't have a home warranty that only charged me $55 to do it, I would have just bought another non-Maytag washer.

The main bearing seal let go and that is the cause for the noise and water on your floor. The repair is costly, around $350 for repair.

How do i fix a broken transmissionon my maytag

Click on manuals, then laundry then Amana Maytag washer SAV.
This is a big job to do. You may need the special spanner wrench, but you can use electrical outlet boxes to spread the tub springs.
Before starting, I would make sure there is no leaking of the tub bearings and seals, just look above the tranny for signs of leaking, sometimes they leak into the tranny and ruin it.

Loud spin cycle - leaks water

No boot on a top loader, the tub seal and bearing are gone, water leaked from the tub seal, rusted the bearing and quite possibly the milk stool and transmission. Check your warranty, the transmission may have a 5 year limited warranty, usually it will include the tub seal and bearing with the kit.

your washer has a transmission and this is what is probably leaking. You might simply need a new seal or the a new transmission. You need a good handyman or contact a repairman.

Spin Cycle

Yes its true the main support bearing is part of the outer tub and is factory set .Dry bearing will roar until it develops a leak and eventually starts a main pulley shake that will cut through the back of the outer tubs shell. The outer tub costs about $175.00(varies)the labor (please sit down)yes, is high enough for you to go out and find your self a 15 year old Maytag top load, re-build it,scrap the front load, and never see a repairman for the next 15 Years. No joke!                             I/m happy to help you with anything you need a answer to.............Sorry about your Maytag    :(

Maytag Legacy Series Leaking

I have the same problem as many other Maytag owners of this model machine have. I spoke to a repairman and he told me to "junk" the machine. He said the cost was about $300 to $350 to fix and he WOULD NOT guarantee his work on this machine. He said that Maytag knew of the problem but refused to do any sort of a recall.
My solution:
1. Buy another machine and junk the Matag
2. Tell all your frends and neighbors NOT TO BUY MAYTAG...
3. Drop the old machine off on the MAYTAG door step.

Noisy spin cycle

Hey ****, what you are hearing is the spin bearing. Maytag redesigned the bearing kit on this washer, there must of been a lot of leaks causing the bearing to go bad. They put out a service flash...TDL-0060-B. New seal and bearing kit, part number12002470. You may want to contact Maytag on this for it could be covered. I know you have 5 years warranty on the transmission and If they change that, they have to use a new seal and bearing. back.
