Question about Mitsubishi WT-42313 42" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Screen cut off on the bottom - WT-42313 Mits 42"

Hello, I've read online about adjusting the "vhgt" on my tv by using the service menu. I used the code to get into the menu and I'm able to use the "Video" button on my remote to change the settings in "Mode 2", but it won't let me change the mode as suggested by multiple online sites by pressing "Audio". Pressing "Audio" does nothing and it stays in Mode 2. I've read that I'm supposed to be able to change it to JNGL mode and I should then be able to tweak the VHGT to adjust the picture height so it's no longer cut off. Any ideas?

Im having the same problem, The bottom couple of inches of picture seem to be cut off. I have tried all the format options ect but no fix

My remote is the official Mitsu remote. And, like I was saying above, I am able to control the TV. I get into the service menu (with the service codes I found online), but the menus are functioning differently than I'm finding described online.

I was able to find more information at http://www.avsforum.com, though. For others with this problem, do a search for Overscan and your model number in the forums.

What's needed appears to be more difficult than I assumed it would (should) be. So I'll likely just call a technician to fix it.

    Thanks,

I have had the same problem but much more severe when using a PS3. ( Playstation 3)  Blu-Ray movies and PS3 games are overscanning so badly that I estimate 10% of the screen is outside of the viewing area based on some calibraton screens that some BLU-Ray disks come with.  Some games allow me to correct the problem in-game in the options menu (for example Metal Gear Solid 4 allows you to zoom in and out to correct the overscan, making that particular game playable.) but most games do not offer that feature and no Blu-Ray disks do.  The problem only seems to severely affect the PS3.  I do not have the same problem with games or movies on my xbox 360, Wii, PS2, Dreamcast, N64, DVD players, VCR etc.  I came here hoping to find a fix for the problem using the TV settings because Sony is unwilling to fix the problem despite the fact that it seems to affect most Rear Projection 1080i HDTV users.  Their stance seems to be that since it doesn't affect TV's other than rear projection 1080i TVs that it isn't worth fixing.

Make sure your remote is the official Mit remote, and that it is set for TV, usually the far left setting at the top of the remote.

These remotes control many different devices. Some will allow video to work without allowing audio to work.

TV will allow all to work.

I misunderstood. When you said "cut off" I didn't realize you meant simply not there. I thought they were blanking out.

All CRT RPTVs are built with overscan OOB, preventing you from seeing all of your picture. The ceiling pjs don't suffer from this, but are vastly more expensive.

Reducing overscan is not hard at all. It's remedying the resulting havoc it wreaks on your picture, that's where the talent comes in. And don't expect virtually any repair techs to be able to handle it. They may be good at being techs,. but most techs know NOTHING about the calibration process.

I and a handful of fellow calibrators, count 'em on one hand - are the only ones I know who are capable of both repair and calibration.

I am available for paid phone consultation if you wish to do it yourself, or if you want to just get it done right, on all calibration levels, send me a plane ticket.

I have a model WT-42313. The convergence of the red is off to the right if you are looking at the screen. I have tried to use the advance settings, but the red will not shift left. Is there any thing else...

You have to replace the stk 392-250's(convergence ic's) and possibly a resistor or two. We've fixed several of these. It will probably cost between $250.00 - $350.00 from most repair shops to fix.

Sounds like The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here.
