LIght bulb burned out

I have a KitchenAid microwave model KBMC140HSS03, Serial number XR3409470 that has a burned out light bulb. KitchenAid customer service tells me the bulb must be replaced by a service man. I don't want to spend $150 in labor charges to replace a light bulb. I know the halogen lamp is in the top of the microwave but I don't have any idea how to get to the bulb to replace it. Can you please tell me what to disassemble to gain access to the bulb so I can replace it. Thanks very much!

We have the exact same problem. The light went out this morning. Could you please e-mail me with the information to fix it. My husband and brother in law are pretty handy - I'm hoping they can fix it. Thanks!!

I have precisely the same problem. The microwave manual says nothing about how to replace the lightbulb, and cautious attempts to pull it loose have not worked. Can anyone provide details on how to get it out so I can replace it?

    Thanks, J. Mansfield

After about two years of service, the light in my Kitchen Aid KEHC309JSS07 oven/microwave went out. The bulb is a Whirlpool #4375348. One article I read noted that Home Depot was cheaper, but I couldn't find the bulb listed on-line.

Same model Kitchen Aid KBMC140HSS03 S/N XR3510450. Same problem interior oven bulb has burned out. Would love to see service manual data on the R/R of the bulb before I blindly dig in with my meat hooks. I would hope it is simply a case of RTFM and no need for 10 or 15 factory special tools to replace the bulb.

I have the same problem kitchenaid model # KEMS308GSS1 microwave bulb burned out. This is the second time. The first time, I had a repairman over for another (wonderful) kitchenaid appliance problem and had him replace it. Way too many $ to change a bulb. I know the unit needs to come out to do this. So I am also looking for a step by step procedure to do this. I also want to change the lens cover at the same time.

Thanks, any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

The bulb cost me $40 and is as smaller than a thumbnail. Use gloves or paper towel to hold it-grease from fingers will shorten life. The two prongs slide in to the ceramic holder. The entire microwave comes out, then you take cover off and prop next sheet metal layer up while you reach in and change it. It helps to have a STURDY work table to put it on while you disassemble it. Takes an hour if everything goes right.

Master_Tech, in the Grand Cayman Islands emailed me the service manual on my microwave and the lamp part number. If the people needing this information would contact me directly by email, or phone at 913-631-4725 I will be happy to pass all of this information on to you - the service manual is 87 pages. With the proper disassembly instructions and the bulb specs it took me about an hour to replace the lamp.

Thanks again to Master_Tech for helping me!

My model is KHMS2056SSS and bulb replacement is simple. Use a "star" bit that fits the single screw that holds the frosted glass in place. Remove old bulb, then replace with a 10 watt/ 12 volt halogen bulb with a G4 base. Make sure to hold new bulb with a paper towel or wear clean gloves (your greasy fingers kill bulb life!) Replace the glass and secure the screw. Problem solved for $7.

Built in microwave light bulb for kitchenaid

Need model number. If this is one of those built-in wall ovens with microwave on top (with the door that drops down), it is definately NOT something the average customer can do himself. It's a 45-minute job for an experienced technician!

To replace the light bulb first remove the screws located on the vent grill at the top of the microwave, tilt the grill back and then pull away to remove. After this open the light cover , you have to remove the screws so that you can discard the old light bulb and then replace it with a new one. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

You would need to probably open the cover. Once all the screw is taken out the cover just slides back and it should be freed. You will then see where the light bulb is which is usually on top.

Microwave light is burnt out

Accessing the internal light bulb on model KBMC140HSS bulb will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download Whirlpool / Kitchenaid owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

These models use halogen lamps. You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

Microwave bulb replacement

The oven will need to come down from the wall so the outer cover can be taken off. Then you'll see the light socket(s).

It's recommend due to the weight and awkwardness of the oven that two people do this job.

If you don't still have your installation instructions, you can download them here, but you should use you full model number, as opposed to the base KEM378.

This uses a fairly common halogen bulb, but I'm not sure of the wattage. It should be marked on the bulb or on a tag near the reflector.

You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

Burned out light bulb

can u open the housing?. you can look at the spot where the light is and you can see a bulb holder screwed on the metal housing. it has two wires hooked up to that holder. remove those wires and unscrew the holder of the bulb. look closely at the bulb if it is fiited to the holder like an ordinary light bulb. if its like that then you can unscrew it and replace it. if its not screwed to the holder then you have to buy the whole bulb assembly at the dealer of your microwave. it is considered a special bulb only from the dealer you can get. i hope i was able to solve your problem..
