LAPTOP does not turn on. only fan runs.

Things to check first.
1. Make sure you have a new BIOS battery installed. Some computers will not start if the battery for the BIOS is dead.

2. The CPU may have overheated and no longer works. I lost a CPU and everything was dead.

3. A dead motherboard can also act in like manner.

Sometimes something will come loose on the motherboard causing a direct short which of course fries the motherboard and probably the CPU. Dropping a laptop can shake things loose.

My Daughter had this happen with hers. It was a 800 dollar HP Compaq and I had a heatsink come loose on my HP Compaq which fried CPU AND Motherboard. Beware of HP since they bought Compaq.

I have a dell inspiron 6000 laptop and whenever it boots up i get a message that says, ''A disk read error occurred.'' I got a new laptop for christmas, but there are things i would really like to have...

Get yourself an eide/sta to usb adapter. This will let you take a removed HDD from the old computer, attach it to the adapter hub and plug the usb connection into your new computer. Your new computer will read the old one as an external HDD and you can take all the files you want. Most computer retailers and Ebay have them for around 15-20 bucks.

Did I fry my ASUS A7V8X-MX motherboard? I bought an old computer(with this moboard) that was working. I opened it and put in my old HD to slave it. Rebooted to get into the BIOS (just to check things...

Hi there,

I do not think that this problem is to do with your Motherboard. If you had fried your Motherboard, you would not see anything when you started the computer, you especially wouldn't be able to get in to the BIOS if your Motherboard was damaged because the BIOS is accessed straight off the Motherboard itself. You will notice that if you take out all the Hard Disks in your computer, you will still be able to access the BIOS.

This problem is probably due to a corrupt Hard Disk. Maybe you set the old Hard Disk to the Master or whilst moving your computer you damaged the other Hard Disk. This problem is known as the Windows Reset Loop, your computer will not get past a certain point in the start-up process and will then restart itself and do the same thing over and over again.

This could also be caused by a problem in your BIOS, when you did the CMOS reset, it would have probably knocked out all of the stored data. When your computer is starting up, you must go in to the BIOS and check which drive the bios is set to boot off. Even though your Slave Hard Disk is set as a Slave, you can still set the computer to boot off this drive, and if this drive is corrupted it will not boot, it will go in to the Windows Reset Loop.

If the problem still persists, i recommend that you remove the old Hard Disk which you have put in and try and boot off the Master as a single drive. If this still doesn't work, set your other Hard Disk as the Master and remove the other drive and try boot off that one.

Hi, Had my printer on old computer, when I went to put in on new computer the alarm light comes on and nothing else works.

Before connecting the printer to the new computer you will need to install the drivers using the printer disk.

If the printer disk is too old, or if you have misplaced the disk you will need to go to the printer manufacturer website, find support page, enter printer model, and download updated driver.

Connect printer only after installing driver.

If the printer is too old, it may not be compatible with Vista or newer operative systems.

Lightining Hit

When the computer gets zapped, virtually any part can be damaged, including RAM, disk drives, connectors on cabinet (eg USB), PCI cards, etc.

Usually the CPU stays safe, as the motherboard blows before CPU.

When you get this kind of damage is always better taking the computer to a repair shop, instead of DIY, as there is need to test all parts.

Ensure that you assembled Motherboard, CPU , and heath-sink properly.

Try first starting the computer with a minimal set of devices plugged to the motherboard, with only PSU, RAM (1 module), Video card if needed and CPU/Fan.

If there is no power at all then it is likely a bad PSU, if it starts but not screen, it is either a bad RAM or the motherboard had not been assembled properly, or had been damaged during assemblage.

Hi, i guess you mean you are trying to copy your old information from your old PC to your new one, you can only transfer information like my documents, pictures, music etc from your old pc, It wont work for Programs. If you try copying the folders for old programs and using them it wont work,
Only thing you can do is backup word documents, letters, pictures and copy them to the new pc. by going into view my files on the autoplay option.

Have a nice christmas
