According to this description on Amazon, your model uses SD memory cards:
http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-SVAV20-Digital-Camcorder-Camera/dp/B00008OLBN
Then you should have 2 options:
(1) The easiest is to remove the SD memory card from the SV-AV20 and insert it into an SD card reader (many available, starting from below $10). The SD card reader will have a USB connector so you can plug it into a USB port on your computer. Your computer (Windows or Mac) should recognize that you've inserted this and show the data on the SD card as a removable storage device.
(2) Clunkier option is to use the USB cable that typically comes with digital cameras -- these require the camera to be turned on. If you're unlucky, you may have to install camera-specific software on your computer to recognize the device. Since I hate adding extra software to my computer, I far prefer option #1 above, which works universally.
Hope this helps.
Just an FYI, I bought a 16 GB SDHC card for my eware (Panasonic SV-AV20) and found out that the highest compatible card for this device is only 1 GB! (according to http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/connect/d_snap/sv_av20.html). I kept getting a "CHECK CARD" error so I know it won't work.
