Zoom control not working

The Grip zoom on my Canon GL 2 is not working.  I have tried to rest my camcorder for a while to see if it was not responding due to it being in the cold weather yesterday while I was recording but still no response.  I only have function with the handle zoom on top.  can you be of some assistance.

Thanks for the hint.  Hopefully that is all that is needed.  I have sent the camera out for repair. Someone else that I know has also made mention to maybe the camera experiencing a short/ loose connection due to the fact when he examined it the zoom meter was not viewable at first then it popped up and then disappeared again.  This seems to be a very helpful network, maybe one day I can be helpful as well.

The problem that you are experiencing is a common complaint on the Canon Gl2 camcorder. There are two different common parts that can cause zoom problems. One is that the zoom control on the side grip goes faulty and will need to be replaced, this repair parts and labor is $199. The second problem is a bad flex PCB and this repair parts and labor is 306. Both of these repairs include cleaning and servicing. The return shipping is free. We also guarantee the entire camcorder for 6 months parts and labor. If you have any other questions please feel free to call, email or post you questions here.

Sounds like the zoom control needs cleaning I run two of these and they have both gone within a week of each other, it seems to be a common fault. Will need to send them to a repairer as they are fiddly to do.

Zoom function just stopped working for both the grip and the handle on my Canon GL2

You will need to have your camcorder repaired by an experienced technician. There are a two possibilities for why you are having this problem. There is a zoom flex cable assy that breaks over time (quite common) and also the zoom key assy can go bad. Most likely, it is the flex cable assy though. If you take your camcorder in for repair, you might also have them go ahead and replace your idler and drive gear inside your mechanism as preventative maintenance (while they are in there to keep the cost of labor down). These components will wear out and cause a "REMOVE THE CASSETTE" error....mainly when you are FF or REW. We usually recommend replacing those gears because it is a common problem that we see.

Hope this information has helped you.

The side grip zoom button does not work.

Camera needs service. There is an assembly that get replaced in the side cabinet, it's a flexible printed circuit or FPC. You can expect to pay ~ $220.00 for this type of repair. Of course, don't overlook having general maintenance performed while it's in the shop... usually it's just a tad more labor, and the cost of parts. www.AVRepair.com is one such place.

Zoom problem

I have the same problem. I hoped it was down to the zoom button on the top of the camera. I dismantled it and eventually got to the button but couldn't find anything loose/damaged or needing cleaned.

Did you ever find a solution?

You might have bad contact in zoom switch unit or a short in zoom switch. The switch assembly is replaced for the remedy.
