I recently noticed my M2000 getting extremely hot, as in so hot it hurts to touch. The fan seems to work sometimes, but now it will randomly refuse to boot up, and it constantly locks up.

Sometimes it will lock up before anything even finishes loading in Windows, sometimes it will take a few minutes then do it. I have tried it in Safe Mode and it still EVENTUALLY locks up every time. The longest I have been able to use it before it freezes is 5 minutes.

    Any ideas?

Fan is controlled by a temp sensor on Mobo and by CPU. I hard wired my "dead" fan to a constant 5V power supply (off the battery bus) and now it runs constantly, doesnt bother me and I have yet to lock up. My CPU cover actually discolored and warped because my fanless CPU got so hot!

2002 Lincoln Continental - overheats

have a compression test done to check for head gaskets/cracks. check thermostat fitted correctly. If there is a viscous fan hub then replace it. if the bottom hose stays cool that indicates a blockage and that if the radiator is off the shelf new points to a thermostat fitted the wrong way . over haeting at lights goin slow or working at high rpms while loaded points to the fan hub. If electric fans then it points to the fact that they are not coming on. check ignition timing as a spark after TDC will cause overheating.. If at speed it over heats then check over drive operation as over reving the engine will also over heat the engine.

I have a Sony VGN-FW17)J... It started freezing occassionaly about 20 minutes after stratup. A reboot would fix it and it ran fine. Then it would freeze minutes after bootup and restarting wouldn't help....

Probably has a dead fan inside and this is causing it to overheat. You will have to take it apart and replace the fan. To test if it is heat related spray duster or freeze spray inside it to keep things cool.

Install new HD, plug into wall, no lights come on.

Are you sure the HD was installed correctly? The pins not mating properly might be the cause of the problem.

Make sure the power supply is working. Look at the brick (the box on the cord), it may have a light (an LED).

My presario M2000 will not power on, & gets very hot when charging.

Try removing the battery and connecting to a direct power supply

If it is successfull allow the battery to cool off for some time and then plug in battery and try out it should work. Otherwise u need a battery change.

If the problem persists even without the battery then there might be a RAM fault.

Compaq presario m2000 imediately shuts down after

Check for blocked air passages - vacuum out the fan ports. (Don't use canned air - you'll just blow the dust inside, where it will act as an insulator and help things overheat.) Make sure the fans are actually turning. If there's any mold growing inside, that could cause the problem too.And for more contact

M2000 heat causing trouble?

Are the fans clear from dust and debris? this is a major factor, if it keeps freezing you may have partially burnt out the processor or other component.
