After i turn the tv on for a few minutes, red and green sparkles appear.Very visible on dark colors. What could be the problem? I have a Zenith z42px2d plasma tv. How much would it cost to get fixed and would it be worth it? Thanks!

Most likely the panel is being overdriven by the Y sustain circuits. To adjust this properly you need an oscilloscope but you can decrease the Vs voltage (probably about 180V) by up to 10 volts with a potentiometer on the switching power supply board. This is not an approved by the book way to get rid of sparkles but it works and I do not believe that it degrades performance or can cause any harmful effects. You don't have to measure the voltage. Decrease Vs until the spots go away.

In that set its usually a bad picture tube. The lines you are seeing are called retrace lines. You can take it to a shop and they may be able to rejuvenate the tube

After a few minutes the color goes to intense red and green

My tv didn't turn green, but the red separated significantly. It started off happening after a few minutes of being on (I suppose the defective part was "warming up"), then it got to where it was like that immediately upon turning the tv on. In my case, I had to pay a tv repair man $350 for a new part. There are 2 microcircuits that control the color alignment--one that controls the red only, and the other controlls the other 2 colors, blue and green I believe. Maybe your part is the blue/green controller, mine was red. The repair man said these parts fail so rarely they don't stock the part. The cost of repair may be different for a different part, but either way you have to choose if it's worth that cost to you. If you get rid of it, I'll buy your tv stand ;-), I bought mine from a friend and didn't get the stand in the deal.
