The Clarion VZ401 can only play audio (MP3 or WMA) files from a USB device. This is listed in the manual on both page 33 (USB Operations) and page 46 (Specifications). This unit can't play audio file with DRM and some USB drives may not be compatible with the device. It can play some videos from some IPod/IPhone models with the Clarion CCA-750 adapter. This is a USB to RCA composite stereo audio/video jacks cable. This feature isn't compatible with the Lightning connector or some versions of the iOS operating system. To view any other videos, you need to play them back on a device that can directly connect to the composite RCA audio/video ports (AUX In or AV In).
I hope this helps. The list of compatible IPod and IPhone models is available from Crutchfield on the VZ401 Details tab: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ix4f1cAUkb9/p_020VZ401/Clarion-VZ401.html . This tab also has a link to the manual; the direct link is http://d2stobyut4u5rx.cloudfront.net/ImageBank/v20150407084800/Manuals/020/020VZ401.PDF .
MP4, MOV, H.264 are suitable formats for iPod. And u also need a video tool named Pavtube Video Converter to help u convert other movie files to a compatible format with iPod with good quality.
It works for me greatly.
USB wires are universal, so No you shuouldn't need another wire. My friend had a similar problem with his new AUDI 58 plate. (shares the same "VAG" parts bin as your car)
He found that his new ipod was not compatible, and Audi said they need to upgrade their software. Audi dealer Re-imbursed him the cost of ipod.
check with your Dealer and find out which versions of ipod ARE compatable. i've noticed quite a few things with Ipod compatibility dont support the iphone. & now there's a new iphone just to make things more difficult. Good Luck.

Add Alpine's optional "Full Speed" connection cable and you'll be able to use the CDE-9872 to control your iPod. -Crutchfields website
This is compatible with first and second generation iPods touch. fyi- if you have a mini-stereo aux in jack on the deck you can connect a ipod touch compatible mini stereo cable to the earphone jack of your ipod.
The newer generation iPods don't always work with the iPod connection kits in a lot of the car stereos. Some of the problem is due to the fact that the new generation iPods have been changed and the stereos were manufactured before the players were released so they are not compatible. I bought my girlfriend a Pioneer car stereo with an iPod control cable, and it works fine with her Nano (not the new generation Nano) and it works with my iPod Photo 60 GB but it does not work with my iPhone 2G and I read that it is not compatible with the new Nanos or the Classics. Check with Jensen to see if the model you have is compatible with the Classic and see if there is a solution to the issue. It may not be compatible with the new video portion of the Classic firmware.
