Verbatim 1GB flash drive data recovery

I've got a verbatim flash drive. I plugged it in to my laptop and the laptop got pushed up against the wall and bent the flash drive. I can't retrieve any data that I've saved on it. Is there a way to recover the data?

Sounds like you broke something ;)

If your computer does not recognize anything when you plug it into the computer, your problem is most likely a broken contact inside the usb drive.

You should attempt to open the drive, and see if one of the four contacts on the inside of hte usb key are no longer making their way to the circuit board, and try to reconnect it.

IF you can push the connectors down with your fingers and make contact temporarily, and the computer recognizes it, try to just hold it there while you copy all your data off. Then throw away the flash drive.

I bent my flashdrive and now it won't read. I initially was able to wiggle it around and once it read, I could drag one file to the desk top. Now, I can't it to read at all. What shall I do?

I would check the pins in the end of the flash drive and see if any of them are bent back. If these metal pieces aren't in the right place then the flash drive won't be able to connect to your laptop. I would try bending them back into place with a small flat head screwdriver. If you don't want to fix it yourself then I suggest you either buy a new flash drive or take it to an electronics store for more help.

What plug can i substitute for a verbatim USB500 portable hard drive? I only need the wall plug.

I believe you also need a dc transformer that has a wall plug on one end and the plug for your USB hub on the other.

I have a verbatim flash usb, the type that slides in and out. Simple question... should it stay temporarily locked when slid out for when inserting into usb drive? If I slide mine out then push to insert...

This problem is not typical, as there is supposed to be two small plastic tabs that that slide into equally small indentations on the plastic that keep the drive out while in use. Normally the drive would slide out and lock, then, when you're done do push the drive back in. Appears to be defective or broken.

Hello, My USB device got bent. I carfully bent it back and it looks okay but my computer said it malfunctioned. Is there any way to get my info off of it?

Probably just broke the solder join on the USB plug. I have used a fine tipped soldering iron, and re-sweated the join again, and you will probably fix it.
