My RCA Opal M4202, was washed in the washer last will turn on, is there anything I can do save it?

If you ever find that you have to deal with a wet device, don't just abandon it.
Instead, try the following method to repair the water damage:
Take it apart as much as you can. Take out the battery, the memory card and whatever else can be easily disassembled. (Just make sure you can put it back together.)
Store the parts in an air-tight container covered with either dry rice, silica gel packets or kitty litter. These will absorb the moisture from your electronics device, leaving it water-free.
If no rice, gel packets or kitty litter are available, try using a vacuum to **** the water out. Do NOT blow-dry the parts, it will only force the water farther in and cause more damage.

I can`t find the reset button on my rca opal m4001 mp3 player

Some models have reset switches some do not.
Look on the back of your mp3 there should be a tiny hole there.
That is the reset switch for most opal. Other way to reset is hold power button down for 15 seconds.

If you cant find it you will have to go to the RCA website and download the latest firmware.

I accidentally washed (and dried) my ipod.

Even though it got dried it's a good idea to take a blow dryer on low setting and dry the internal parts, that has worked for me in saving my electronics in the past.

Hope this helps.

2 gb ipod nano

you might need a special toolkit for it, but a sharp knife. and carefully open it.

sounds bad, if not dryed carefully its a goner.
Id take it apart and put it in a airthigh container filled with rise, keep it in there for a day or two then put back together.

If your lucky it will work

RCA Opal M4002A Won't let me access playlist without shutting down

You need to re-image your firmware--it sounds like something is corrupted there. I have seen this behavior on other mp3 devices in the past; sometimes it requires special techniques to reset the device. Let's hope this isn't the case with your Opal--RCA was rude enough not to provide a handy reset procedure.

If you are daring you can try to replace the firmware files directly on your Opal using your son's files. You need to enable viewing of hidden files to do this: Tools-->Folder Options...-->View-->Show Hidden Files and Folders. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" and say "Yes" to the dialog that pops up. You can change these back later. For MacOS X, open Terminal, then type "defaults write AppleShowAllFiles TRUE", push Enter, Option-click (and hold) the Finder icon, then choose Relaunch.

Now, simply copy your Opal's files over to a local directory on your hard drive (this is a backup so you can't make things worse), and then copy your son's Opal files onto your Opal. The files should be as follows:

All of these files should be placed in the root of the drive--in the folder on the Opal that also shows folders like "Audible", "FMRecord", "Music", "Pictures", etc. After the transfer, stop and unplug your Opal. Try to turn it on and see what happens. If it looks OK, try to hook up to it with Windows Media Player. If you are still having trouble, use the firmware from the RCA website--even if it is the same version. Failing that, you may need to have the device serviced or replaced.

Good Luck!

Mp3 player went through washing machine

My daughter's Zune went through the washing machine and dryer in May 2008. I checked the internet & it looked pretty bleak. I couId see water inside the screen area & it would not turn on at all. I decided to just leave it sitting on the counter for awhile instead of just throwing it away. Three weeks later I tried to turn it on & got a low battery display. We plugged it in, charged it and it has been working ever since (it is now August 2008).

It got washed in my pants by accident

Don't turn it on right away. Water alone does not break electronics. If the player was off when it got washed and it hasn't been turned on since it is probably still OK. If you turn it on when the unit is dry (inside), it will be OK. But. If you tried it right away, and there was water in it when you turned it on it's game over. The unit will probably short out and never work again. The question is how do you know when it is dry inside?
