Green shadow and low brightness in Mac Mini intel

Got a VA800 from friend who used it w/G5 powermac. I saw it connected to the G5 and it worked just fine. Got the monitor from my friend to use with my new Mac Mini (intel) w/OS 10.5 and I get a green shadow following the cursor and very low brighness. Couldn't find a installer of any mac tool for this monitor. Any idea what to do?

SOURCE: no picture on monitor

The Q7 has a tendency to burn up transistors and a high voltage capacitor on the one half of the inverter board which is part of the power board.
I have repaired 1/2 dozen of these with that problem.
Only way to tell for sure would be to open it up and look at it.
If you can do that and send me a picture to, I may be able to confirm this.
The other possible problem could be a bad bulb, but since it is fairly new ? that is probably not the issue.

SOURCE: ViewSonic Monitor screen gone black

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.
Please post back what you find.

I would replace the cable that connects the monitor to the computer. If that doesn't fix the problem then return the product, it should still be under warranty.
Good Luck!

Suddenly, after no previous problems, when computer (Mac- G5, older, not intel) started up in the morning, the monitor, although power light on, displays only black screen. Monitor is lcd Formac- not...

Try hooking it up to another PC first, but more likely to have failure in the power supply caps or failed inverter cicuits.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for:
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

My apple mini mac (no intel) hook up mag monitor 780

The Mac Mini has an adapter plug, DVI to VGA.
If you use the adapter and a VGA cable to the monitor there is not a noticeable difference.

Just be sure to know the resolution maximums of the MAG monitor before you think its the Mac.

Microtek 997M monitor doesn't stay on...

The inverter is the most common item to fail on a LCd monitor. Capacitors usally fail the most. Are the tops of any of them popped up. If you had any shorted transistors the fuse would probably be blown. Usally labeled F1. I would replace all the capacitors first and go from there. Capacitors are cheap.

Did you ever find the problem with this unit? BTW, a crappy video cable can cause this or the input impedance has changed on the monitor due to improper connections.
