Question about ViewSonic VA800 17.4" Flat Panel LCD Monitor
Got a VA800 from friend who used it w/G5 powermac. I saw it connected to the G5 and it worked just fine. Got the monitor from my friend to use with my new Mac Mini (intel) w/OS 10.5 and I get a green shadow following the cursor and very low brighness. Couldn't find a installer of any mac tool for this monitor. Any idea what to do?
Launch System Preferences from the ??Menu.
click on 'Displsys try changing resulution and brightness.

SOURCE: no picture on monitor
The Q7 has a tendency to burn up transistors and a high voltage capacitor on the one half of the inverter board which is part of the power board.
I have repaired 1/2 dozen of these with that problem.
Only way to tell for sure would be to open it up and look at it.
If you can do that and send me a picture to email@example.com, I may be able to confirm this.
The other possible problem could be a bad bulb, but since it is fairly new ? that is probably not the issue.

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.
Please post back what you find.
