Chirping or hissing from the TV is caused by a faulty CRT base socket in 95% of the cases. Replacing the base socket is an easy job, but care must be taken to get the same replacement base socket. You better desolder the existing base and take it to the shop to get one with the similar connections. Good luck.

The redwire is the final anode, there is a clip lock at the end, you can use a screwdriver to push under the vacuum cup and then lift the connection. But before disconnecting it discharge the voltage by connecting a wire to the board's ground and shorting it to the end at the cup. Then clean both the cup and the socket on the crt with a clean cloth and replace it. The cup is rubber, so don't use petrol or such things that can harm rubber.

Don't worry about any air pressure, that is not an opening into the picture tube. Gently push the lock with a screw driver, you can even tilt it and pull out without a screw driver. This will no way damage the tv.

Even if it is off there are chances that some power to remain, just connect one end of the wire to the ground and other end into the cup. If the cup is already glued you will have to get a new cup, it may not be easy to get it off untampered. There is a clip under the cup, it is just like a spring that spreads its two ends siedewards. Try to get a new cup and then replace it, once you undo the cup from the tube you will get an idea as to how to change the cup. It is easy and intuitive.

We have a Panasonic TV - Model TH-37PX60U (purchased 08/2006) that makes a "chirping" type noise periodically - sort of comes and goes. Any idea what this might be? Thanks, Mike G Pinellas Park,...

Sometimes that "chirping" is caused by loose windings on various transformers. You can usually isolate a particular transformer by pressing on it when it is "chirping" & it may stop "chirping" or the frequency my change. If that is the cause, you can A: replace the coil, B: replace the Printed Circuit Board, or C: Do nothing as it really isn't hurting anything but your nerves.
