Question about Heating & Cooling
I have a couple GE Zoneline 2100 units with different problems:
One unit blows cold/hot air at the same time when set to heat. It doesn't ever shut off either...I have to unplug it...either in heat or cool mode.
The other unit was working alright with the switch messing up a bit. Now it seems the switch is working but not heat is coming out in the heat setting. I've tried unplugging the unit and plugging it back in but that didn't fix it.
I don't know how old these units are but if possible I'd rather fix the ones I have rather than buy new ones as I'm in a rental.
Well, it's been almost 4 years since this was posted, but it's the selector knob. these things are HORRIBLY designed (the selector knobs) very easy to break if someone pushes it to the side too hard.
ASSUMING when you cleaned it, you didn't get the controller knob wet, which could cause heat and ac to come on at the same time. If after a few days, it's still the same, it's the selector. I've replaced a million of them (ok, not really a million, but, a lot.)

I have 2 of these units Zoneline 2100 and both of them continue to run constantly no matter what setting I have on. My electric bill is outragous and I've cleaned the vents. I only rent this place so what should I do? It runs for a couple minutes, shuts off for a minute then comes right back on....ALL day!

The problem is with the switch. You can buy the replacement switch board (~$70) and swap them out. Or if you just replace the actual switch on the board for only a few dollars, but this requires some soldering.

Unplug them and wash out the condenser coils outside then check them again. See if there is any change.
