When I set the programme, the START/PAUSE button blinks and nothing happens. The door light stays on as well. I have to switch off the machine before I can open the door again.

- fle1416w is a washing machine and I have exactly the same problem as RickyXX. Pause light keeps flashing and unable to start machine. Door light on as soon as you switch on. - paulusYYSolution #1

Most possible reasons that the door switch or timer unit is defective.
The dishwasher should heat the water to about 55 C as the heating cycle starts. In these cycle, the dishwasher pauses after has filled with water and wait for the water to reach the temperature.
If the water isn't being heated (because of a problem with the heating element or thermostat), after the unit stops at the heating cycle, it never continues.
