I have a Dell Inspiron Notebook and a Kensington Port Replicator purchased from Dell and a Vison Monitor Model MW19B ADD. The monitor displays if I plug it directly into the notebook. If I plug the monitor into the port replicator, it doesn't display. All other devices that are plugged into the port replicator are recognized by the Dell notebook. How to I get the port replicator to recognized the monitor?

Dell 1703fpi

Dell 1703fpi LCD monitor,

http://philadelphia-pa.americanlisted.com/computers/dell-1703fpi-17-lcd-monitor-vgadvi-usb-hub-50-phoenixville_21225579.html

I got that part Dan.........

What I need is what Model Number of Dell Inspiron it is.
This is on the Bottom of the Inspiron laptop.

Why?
Because I do not know if the Dell Inspiron laptop you have, has a DVI port, or a VGA port; for an external monitor......

Generic information while I wait.........

Example of Digital Visual Interface port, and corresponding cable,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface

Example of Video Graphics Array port,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

Can be on the side, or back of laptop.

Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect the matching video cable from the external monitor; to the laptop.
Now turn the laptop on.....

By factory default settings, the display should now show on the external monitor. (Dell 1703fpi)
No?

There are at least 3 display options available;
1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external monitor
3) External monitor ONLY

Press, and hold down on the Fn key. (Usually 2nd key from left on bottom row of keyboard)
AT THE SAME time tap once on the Display Toggle-Over key.

Which one is that? Dunno.
Laptop model number was not stated.
For a Dell Inspiron though, it's usually the F8 key.
(F1 through F12 keys at the top of the keyboard)

Hold the Fn key down, and at the same time tap once on the F8 key.
Still no?
Hold the Fn key down again, and tap once more on the F8 key.

IF, F8 is the correct key for Display Toggle-Over, and there is no display on the external Dell 1703fpi; then I suggest you have a problem with the video chipset; on the motherboard.......

Awaiting reply in a Comment.

Can a Dell Dimension 3000 connect to 5.1 surround sound

If your Laptop has a "Latitude C/Port Advanced Port Replicator" Then this Port Replicator connects Dell Latitude notebooks to peripheral devices such as a monitor, printer, keyboard and mouse. To accomplish this, connect your peripheral devices to the Dell port replicator itself, and leave them connected to it. Then connect your notebook to the port replicator to access the devices without having to attach them individually each time you want to use them. You can also set up speakers on the Dell Latitude C/Port port replicator to provide improved quality audio.

Follow following steps:
1) Place your Dell Latitude notebook in your C/Port Advanced Port Replicator and turn on the notebook using the power button.
  • 2) Place the speakers you want to connect to the port replicator on either side of the port replicator according to the Left and Right (L and R) labels on the speakers.

  • 3) Plug the audio line connector from the speakers into the audio line out plug on the port replicator. The audio line out plus is on the right-hand side of the port replicator base next to the infrared port, directly opposite the notebook ejection lever.

  • 4) Plug the power cable from the speakers into a power outlet if needed. Battery-powered speakers will not require this. Turn on the speakers following the manufacturer's instructions.

  • 5) Open your preferred music or audio software (such as Windows Media Player or iTunes) on your Dell Latitude notebook and play an audio file to hear the newly-attached speakers.

Wanting to hook up a different monitor to a notebook. the notebook is a dell and the monitor is kds 780

To hook up the monitor all you will need to do it connect it to the monitor port on the side or back of the notebook it should just start displaying on your external monitor as soon as you hook it up but if it dose not you may need to restart the system. Also the port you need to connect to is the only port on the computer the monitor cable will be able to plug into so don't be worried about connecting to the wrong port on your notebook.

    I hope this helped.

    Thank you,
    Norse

My laptop is installed in my port replicator; I also have a Dell monitor plugged in to the port replicator. For some reason, after having to re-boot my computer, the output is appearing on my laptop screen...

Press Fn+F10 to toggle the display back and forth on the laptop screen and external monitor. Pressing the keys a third time would close the display on both displays. Thanks, Abhishek.

Can not find any drivers for the monitor.

I can't even find a website for them.

I wouldn't worry about a monitor driver though. Unless you were doing some high end graphic design or color correction a monitor driver won't do much if anything.

It's more about the Video Display Adapter driver than anything else as far as resolution goes.

    Hope this info helps!

Vison Monitor ( device installer error)

First you need to uninstall the driver for your old monitor. Then install the driver for the new monitor. With both drivers installed your computer is confused and shows the conflict as an error message. Hope this helps.

How do I add a dell external monitor to a dell inspiron 9400

Simply use the external video port. It may require an adapter depending on the monitor you plan to use.

Screen resolution resets to 800x600 after every reboot when d/port is connected.

You may have to set the monitors resolution to match the pc as they may be different.
