It sounds like you need to go to your windows audio mixer and MUTE your microphone. The mic should always be muted no matter what.. this is application controlled.

Everything works except the person I call cannot hear me. I am using skype. The echo check on skype works, I have tried two other cameras and I have the same problem. No matter how I change the settings...

The Camera and Audio setups are unrelated in both Windows and Skype. Please check your Windows Audio devices volume settings and specifically the Microphone settings: it appears to be disabled or the volume level set much too low. The windows settings overrides the settings in Skype (or in other words, Skype volume settings are a subset of the Windows volume settings). Check that Skype audio is setup properly after starting Skype: Tools -> Options -> Audio Settings -> select your required devices and volume levels. During this ajustment process, make free calls to Skype 'Echo / Sound Test Services".
Hope it helps! Let me know how you go!

That's because they are using their speakers to lesson to you. If you both use headphones then you won't get the echo. Also you can have them try to lower the volume at their end.
Hope this helps.

Echo suppression

I don't know how to remove the echos from you video but think I know what is causing them.
Normal 0 Two things can cause static.
First, If you have your speakers turned up to high it will give you feedback causing distortion and static. I'd use headphones during videoing.
Second reason is, if you are using a laptop and have added an external microphone between the two it will cause distortion and static.
Not knowing the configuration of your computer makes it harder to analyze the problem.
So hope this is of some help. Bud

Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX

There are a couple of ways to go about this. You can download a Microsoft Update KB900485 which is an acoustic echo canceling driver. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=404280BF-B240-4A34-AE0E-798CDED8CBAF&displaylang=en This specific fix is a random timing bugcheck when using two-way audio. There is also a paych you can download from Logitech. http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/quickcam.html Or, you can try buying another microphone and using it instead of the built-in microphone.

Echo

Try the following: Go to the Control Panel (in classic mode). Open Sound devices. Change tab to Voice / Microphone. Press Test Software. Wait a couple of seconds. A small guide begins now. The problem is that the Microphone volume is set to high. Try to adjust these settings and see where it gets you. Usually does it for me. Also, try to not have the mic near the speakers. (I translated the steps from my swedish version of XP, look for similiarities.)
